I agree! We do much better at
Walmart OR online. We never deal with the store.
To answer the original question, we recently got three Pantech Ease phones. First, DH needed one, and I researched thoroughly. I had no experience with Pantech and was a little bit skeptical, but the reviews were good. The girl at Walmart told us that that phone was one of the ones that never got brought back during the 30 day trial period.
After playing with her dad's phone, DD decided that she really wanted one too (her phone was one she had gotten at the ATT store the last time she needed an upgrade, got it without researching it, and it wasn't worth much). She loves hers too. Since we have a family texting plan, she was able to add the internet to hers for only $10 a month.
I have long been a RAZR fan and thought they would have to pry mine from my cold dead hands (we're in a remote area, and it has always worked better than anything else for us - we all used to have them). Weeellll, after watching how well DH's did with reception and how easy it is to use (actually has two settings - one for people who like things pretty simple and one for people like DD who like the bells and whistles), I got one too. I love the slide out QWERTY keyboard!
I LOVE THIS PHONE!!! So easy to use! Yes, the touchscreen takes a short time to adjust too, but after that, it's a breeze. I bought (actually used ebay bucks) two sets of accessories off ebay (case, faceplate cover, car charger, and extra house charger) for about $10 with free shipping. The two cases are different colors to help DH and I tell ours apart.
We did pay $28 each for our phones and had to do the 2 year upgrade plan, but that wasn't an issue for us. Everybody we know has ATT and that cuts down on our minutes usage (free cell to cell).
