What is your #1 Tip for surviving Florida Heat?

Water!!! Drink lots of water! And take rests when you need them... almost everyone in family has a heat stroke of some kind at some point in time. Keep hydrated!!!

I also give a vote for the tank tops with the built in bra's, and the really thin running shorts. I also keep my hair wet after my shower and put it up in a pony tail pulled half through so it makes it so much easier to go into the bathroom and wet my face and I don't have to worry about my hair getting in the way. I think it also seemes to keep your head alot cooler keeping it wet. I hope this helps.

Ive got two....

if you have long hair leave it wet in the am and put it up.

but a more general tip: lunch and afternoon naps at the resort.

My #1 tip for surviving the FL heat?

Live in Memphis, TN.

Temps in the upper 80s & lower 90s with humidity in the 80% range means I feel right at home when I'm in Orlando.

I understand this tip won't work for everyone, though. ;)

But we do make sure to avoid all places north during the winter.

Go back to the hotel in the afternoon!! I know this has been mentioned in passing, but I'd like to emphasize the importance of taking an afternoon break.

We go to the parks at opening. Before or after lunch, we return to the hotel for a nap and a swim and just to relax. Then we return to the parks in the evening. We've gone in the summer when the park hours are longer, so we were able to get everything done. We have small children who still nap, and by taking that break they weren't cranky later in the day and they could stay up until park closing. Mom and Dad get a break too, so everybody is happy!

Best of all, we avoid the hottest part of the day and usually the dreaded afternoon rain showers.

Eat breakfast! We discovered on our past trips that when we skipped breakfast for wanting to get to the parks fast you can get sick during the day. From now on we always eat before touring the parks.

Drink plenty of liquids, soda is not good for you when you are very warm..our tip is to drink Power Aides or Gator Aides which rehydrate your body and give you energy. WDW sells Power Aides and so does Universal, we drinks several of them all day long and we feel fine.

The "sports drinks" that many people think are great for hydration can also add far too much sugars to your system, and can inhibit hydration.

To make the most of the positive benefits of Gatorade, dillute it with water. A 50/50 mix of Gatorade and water is a great mix for staying hydrated during high activity. In the dance community, it is a must for long workshops. The water helps your absorb the drink faster, and cuts back on the sugars (which are carbs, and can actually make you feel weighted down if you drink too much)

"A dilute carbohydrate beverage that contains 3-8% sugar is advisable. Beverages such as diluted orange juice or Gatorade™ are rapidly absorbed and provide fuel to working muscles."

If I may be so crude as to mention...the rule is...um..."pee clear". That is, if you are drinking enough water that your urine is very light or clear, then you are staying well hydrated.

I hope this information is helpful!!

This is a tip for those that have little ones in the strollers. Since most of the strollers are dark colors they absorb the sun and make babies hotter. I use a white towel and attach it to the canopy(I use binder clips they don't get in the way when you fold the stroller up.) when the babies sleep I drape the towel over the opening so they are completely covered I bought a personal fan that I plan on attaching to the carriage somehow my baby will be nice and cool (they do sell stroller fans, but the personal fan was only a couple of bucks so if it breaks I won't care and it will be small enough to leave attached)

I also plan on bringing bottled water that I have added some kool aid to so it has some taste for the little ones- very diluted but better tasting than water to them. ( I am going to try the 50/50 gatorade tip, but they don't like the taste usually). I am also going to buy the fruit waters that are made by apple and eve (no splenda like the fruit 2 O)

Hats are definitly a must in our family, if you get really hot, wet your hat and put it back on your head..ahhhh
Also besides tons of sunscreen, dont forget lip balm wth a strong spf, nothing worse than sunblisters on your lips.
People who wear sandals, please don't forget sunscreen on your feet! I always see tourists with sunburned feet..ouch
Oh and ears too.

Water, water and more water!!

We rarely go to the parks until late afternoon. We have breakfast and lunch by the pool and enjoy the resort. We get cleaned up (maybe a nap) and go to the parks. DH doesn't like the heat, but does pretty well. He loves MK at night!
