the more I read on WS the more I get so angry and sad at the same time...all these kids being taken, murdered or still missing...now 3 softball players are missing....I know there are sickos and bad people out there but goodness....it's horrible.

The world has always been like this. People glamourize the past when in fact it was worse than the present.

I know, and I know we are hearing about it more through the net and media, but gosh...I just can't understand how it just keeps happening...and wow google RSO and there are a gazillion it seems and those are the ones REGISTERED!

I read at WS a lot. There are a couple of cases I'm following over there and it just makes my head hurt. It's very sad and very scary.

look up the website Familywatchdogus
and you can put in your address....it will give you all those RSO's in your area.

Because our laws against children, murders, and molesters favor them instead of the public.

We have not gotten past that.

In the old days people looked the other way.

I don't think the world is really any worse now than it was. Not only does news travel faster because of the Internet but the news has stopped being about news and has turned into sensationalized entertainment.

Atrocities have happened throughout history but we hear about them now where in the past they would have been local or regional stories. Yes, technology makes it easier to commit some crimes. A child molester can log into a chat room and prowl instead of having to do down to the park. Conversely, that same technology makes it not only easier to evade them but also easier to catch them. The child no longer has to run away screaming from the swing set, they can click the little x in the upper right corner.

People are also more aware of things now than they were in the past. People in society used to have unquestioned authority and took advantage of it. Now we are more aware of many dangers and can defend ourselves against them. In the past it wasn't that these dangers were there, it was that they were ignored.

It is human nature to remember what is good about a past experience and forget what was bad. Sure, in 1950 you knew your neighbors, had home cooked meals, and life was less hectic. At the same time if you were black you couldn't go to the school you wanted. If you were a woman you couldn't have the job you wanted. Factories dumped pollution into streams and factory workers took their lives into their hands in many cases because of the work conditions in many of the factories.

There are positives and negatives about any time in history but often times perception and reality are blurred.

I hate to paint with a broad brush, but when these so get out of jail and do it again, doesn't that tell anyone anything? I mean I don't think they can be rehabilitated and I doubt they have prgrams for them in jail to help them...it is just maddening, you can be in jail longer for having a bag of drugs on you than someone whol molested a child.

I agree. There are tons of unsolved cases from years and years ago. Lots of horrible things that happened......people knew about them......they just didn't talk about it. My great grand father on my mom's side was a horrible monster that raped/molested his older daughters....some of them even bearing children by him but nothing was ever done to him. Everyone knew.....they just didn't talk about it. I remember asking my mom questions about some of them as a teenager that she gave very vague answers too. Finally as I got older I figured it out.......and also realized that when I was little and we would go to visit the great grandparents why she would never leave us in the same room with him not even for one second.

In the past if one of these filthy child molestors was caught they were taken in the back and were beaten half to death and then the police were called. In today's enlightened PC world they get arrested, are given probation, and thrown back on the street to do it again.

Something to consider about RSO's--anybody convicted of any crime of a sexual nature becomes an RSO. So for example, a 19 year-old boy dating a 17 year-old girl who is convicted of statutory rape becomes an RSO.

Any reasonable person can see there's a big difference between that kind of situation and actual child rape. Yet, both "criminals" wind up with the same status. So IOW, all those RSO's you're seeing might not be a true threat to society. It's really a disservice to the public to lump all sexual offenders into the same category.

The law is a very slow mover unfortunately and they have to figure out what to do with SOs. First there is the question of sentencing. What should the sentence be? Too long and it violates the 8th amendment. Too short and it doesn't stop anything.

Then what do we do when they have concluded their sentence? Once anyone completes their sentence for any crime they have to have a place in society. How do we balance their rights (and while it is popular to say they should have no rights, that just isn't the way our country works) and public safety? There needs to be a balance that keeps them out of situations like teaching or day care but at the same time allows them to work and sustain themselves so the taxpayer doesn't have to.

The issues are difficult and it takes time. The way I look at it we are aware of it and finally doing something so we are getting closer to a solution that works constitutionally. In the past we ignored the problem and because we ignored the problem we have decades (or centuries) of wasted time in which we weren't working towards any solutions. We stopped ignoring drugs, murder, theft, etc years ago so we have been working on solutions for those crimes and offenders much longer.

Often times though they were ignored or swept under the rug. I am as anti PC as anyone can be but I don't believe in vigilante justice. I am for changing the laws, not ignoring or disregarding them.

That's true. familywatchdog will let you actually view what they were charged with.

I agree with the fine line b/w 19 and 17 year olds, but the ones I have looked up here are much older men and it shows their conviction and most were with under age 12 etc (I am talking in my area of FL).....and you can easily see in the database that the majority aren't the older bf and younger gf.

Prisons are overcrowded.....on one radio station they were saying for many crimes there really is no true deterrent. IDK.....I am just following Somer, Eliz O, Caylee, Victoria all these cases....on WS, and many cold cases....and as FD said, yes it's been going on forvever.

On my way to drop off my dd to school, there are tons of small kids walking alone to school....anyone could be easily snatched in a car....I know we can't live in fear of everything but it sure is scary.

I think that maybe there has always been bad happening in the world...but with internet and "instant" news and video it enables us to see ALL the bad happening.

I don't ever watch the local nightly news...its all depressing. people killed, accidents, etc. The media is all about shock value anymore. :sad2:

The registries I have gone to listed exactly what crime each person committed, so no---they aren't always lumped into one group.

May I ask, what is "WS"?
