What is wrong with my memory cards?

a few basic troubleshooting tips guys

You say that after you took some pictures and Videos, the card showed full when you dont think it should have.

When you put the card into your computer can you download the pictures, and can you then view them on your computer? are they all valid pictures and videos?

Once you do this, I suggest you delete all photos and videos (And that extra sub folder) from the card, and replace it in the camera. (Delete everything including the cameras folders. the camera will replace them)

What does your camera say now? How many pictures are available?

If the camera sees it as a valid empty card, then its time to look at the files you pulled off. How big are they?

If they are not as big as the card (or close) you may need to reformat the card.

Lastly the card may have bad sectors on it., you can test this by shooting a crap ton of test pictures and watch your counter to see what it says. If you notice something wrong then the card is bad.

If that works then delete the pictures and try a Video. Run it until the card fills up, download the video and check the size of the video, Is it the size of the card? If not then you have a bad card.

I took the 3 PNY memory cards back to best buy with no problem. I got my Kingston class 6 memory cards in the mail yesterday. I took about 130 RAW pictures and took a few videos and it works fine. I still have no clue what was wrong with the Sony and PNY cards! I'm just glad my camera is not broken! :goodvibes

Glad to hear everything worked out ok. It stinks that you can't seem to use class 10 cards in your camera though.

There's NO WAY 45 pictures and a "couple of videos" (even if he went up to the imposed size limit on each one, it still wouldn't even be close) filled up 16G. Hog-wash. Something else is going on here FOR SURE.

Agreed...

I can put 550+ RAW images on an 8Gb card with my Canon 40D. Granted, the 40D is a 10 megapixel camera but the additional 2 MPx between it and the Pentax shouldn't make that much difference...

If the problem is occurring with that brand card only, then I think it's the cards and not the camera.
