Some of the comments and petty arguments I have been reading lately have been just appalling and tacky!:sad2: fighting over grammar, degrading the loss of someones loved one.....I haven't seen it this bad in a while-is there something in the air? :confused3

It's been like this for quite a while now. I honestly think they just like to stir things up. It gives them a thrill. Maybe their real lives are seriously boring.

ETA: it reminds me of how bad things got back on the old political threads.

I have noticed it as well.

Sad, isn't it? Some people just like to cause trouble and stir things up.

Or absolutely miserable.

Honestly though I don't notice any difference. It isn't just The DIS either. I see the same things happen on other forums.

It used to be this bad when they allowed the political threads. Then after those were gone, it seemed like the trash went with them. Now it just seems like people are just looking to make themselves look like idiots. The other day someone started a thread about their favorite sandwiches and it turned into 3 pages of a grammar fight.....really??? I wonder if these people are like this in real life. Not saying I have never gotten in a heated discussion on here, but some of these comments are just over the top!

I'm still "earning my ears" but I've already taken advantage of the ignore user function. ;)

It goes in cycles. Community board will get some mean folks hanging around for a while and then they'll get tired of pouring their venom out and move on. Hang in there, after they go it will become a fun supportive place again. I haven't been around much lately so I haven't noticed anything lately but I sure have in the past.

Well, I think people are just unhappy the way things are right now. Just look how badly things have gone compared to 10 years ago. More pressure, more stress, more problems to deal with.

Then it comes to people who have different morals. Some things can be more to the heart than others.

Interesting... I have not noticed this as of late. However, it does happen. Anyone that makes fun over the loss of a loved one, must be truly hurting somehow them self. To do that, is just cold. Cold and tacky. I have not read any posts like that, but if I do, I will not appreciate them nor condone them for one millisecond. I can be a smarty pants sometimes, but I would never cross that line. And as far as being Miss smarty pants, hey, what can I say? Other than the fact that everyone needs a hobby. ;) No, really.....
On a side note: there are other sites, where by just stating your opinion can get you into trouble. At least here, for as long as you don't cross a certain line, your opinions are accepted.
I judge my own potential posts, by figuring OK will this, what I think is funny etc going to really make some one angry? If yes, I will not post it. Or I might re-word a message.

~~ I love you Phil, and you will forever be with me! Forever my very best and most special friend! I love you to no end. ~~

I know both the threads you're referring to and I think the op in both caused some confusion by what was posted and/or how it was phrased. I think anytime someone disagrees with a poster or asks for clarification there are others construe it as attacking. I'll admit the opening post in both those threads left me confused. I just chose not to bother to post on them.

I think it goes with the seasons. During the summer most people wont even be online

Maybe the slow response times on this board is making people cranky.

But seriously, I just shake my head and move on when I read what some people post.

You should have put an apostrophe in "someones". ;)

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Being stuck inside due to the weather, plus maybe in some cases lack of money to go anywhere can make people feel a bit snarky. I find myself thinking I wish I could go there or do that when I read posters remarks about where they have been or where they are going or what they plan on buying or just bought. Just human nature.. normal emotions. But this mean streak in some people is totally uncalled for.

Still no reason for people to be rude and nasty.

I agree! I had someone comment on a spelling error I made in a somewhat not so nice way, ugh! So what? Too much time on some people's hands. :goodvibes

People don't need a reason, they just are. Or, they feel they have a need, a reason. :confused3

There are posters here who report members to mods for ridiculous reasons. Recently, from what I've heard someone who was new was banned solely because s/he was thought to be someone else! Seriously? That's all it takes?

So, yes. The DIS is not what is used to be in the days when the debate board kept the nastiness contained, in the days when Pete would hop in and out of the community board and add to the fun, the days when there was a core group of old timers who kept things on an even keel. Perhaps banning half of those people started the problem, I don't pretend to know.

Yep. Changed, and not always for the better. Some of it is due to members, some of it is due to the behind the scenes team and some due to the aching slowness of the boards that seems to be permanent. :confused3

The fuss over grammar really gets to me. Why do some people feel the need to correct others?

As for the fights, it takes a minimum of two to fight and I refuse to get sucked in. At least in most cases. ;)
