Here now and a woman just got upset with my DH because he got in the way of her taking a pix of a snail on the sidewalk at our resort POFQ at nite! I have never seen so many people absolutely obsessed wit taking pix of every inane thing. Someone flashed all the way thru its a small world. So many flashes at FOTLK. Just constantly documenting every thing. Are these people actually doing anything with all these videos and pix. Are they subjecting all their family and friends to a a barrage of Instagram Facebook and Twitter images?

I just dont get it. But really doesn't most of it just end up as e clutter in the cloud or on a computer? Go get some Disney coffee table books or artwork or post cards and call it a day

Maybe. I'm getting old but it's just another way for people to have an excuse to ignore others around them

Had to get that off my chest. Rant over and good nite!

I once heard a mom tell her kids, "The best picture is the one you take with your mind." Great words! I agree with you about this... I love pictures but lately it seems people are living through lenses!

As H says (in his most sarcastic voice), "If you don't take a picture of it, and post it on Facebook, it must have NEVER HAPPENED...

In complete agreement and I enjoy photography as a hobby. I think it makes people feel important. It's just all around bad and wrong. It's actually bad for the environment, because all of that stored junk requires energy. I just got blinded tonight by someone taking pictures of their food at a Tex Mex restaurant in Texas, like those aren't a dime a dozen.

I really wish they wouldn't allow flash photography in FOTLK :(

Not that I am one for food photos, but maybe they were from outside of the USA where there aren't Tex Mex restaurants?

I fully admit to taking a fair few photos and posting them on FB whenever we are on holidays. I am sure my first (and probably only) trip to WDW will be no different. But I don't really need a degree in psycho-analysis to work out why I do it - as a single mum, travelling with two children under 12, it is nice to be able to share our fun with other adults as we go, and Facebook provides me with that outlet. Before we head off on our 4 week USA adventure (in 2 weeks time!!!), I will post a warning on Facebook to all my friends to stop following me if they don't want to see volumes of photos - lol!

Don't think I will be taking photos of snail, though!

Forgot to mention saw a great t shirt it said. No photos please. I'm on vacation. Or something along those lines

Anyway not against all photographers. Just seems it's gotten out of hand. DH idea is to make a hat with mirrors on the back to send the flashes back and ruin the pix for dark rides where shouldn't be taking pix. Anyway passive aggressive i know but it has really gotten on our nerves this week

What's the window of opportunity when taking a picture of a snail?

I don't get the snail pictures. But we love ducks. We always stop to take photos of the Disney ducks.

I'm back from our first WDW trip and I'm wishing I had even more photos. I have them running on my desktop and I love looking at them! But, I would never use flash in a ride (I don't take in ride photos, and I rarely use flash anyway. I get much better pictures without it making everything washed out).

I also never get mad if someone goes where I'm taking a picture. It's crowded! That's just going to happen. I feel bad if my picture taking accidentally gets in the way of someone else.

One lady yelled at us as we walked in to a store and said "Just go on through! We're not trying to take a picture or anything!" Well, they were standing on either side of a doorway to a store! And there were some other people standing around the doorway too, we just didn't realize they were trying to take a picture across an entrance!

I say take all the pictures you want, just don't get upset when people walk through! That's what happens at a place as crowded as WDW.

Did the snail talk? Do tricks?

Unless your DH stepped on it, presumably it was still there for the photog to get her action shot, no?

Personally I've come to the realization that when I look thru the lens to take a picture I miss so much of what is actually going on. pixiedust:

This is why I don't take pictures of shows and rides. I don't want to miss those and I figure someone else has a better movie of it on youtube. :)

Some people like to take pictures. Some don't.

:thumbsup2

I've been taking pictures of minutiae since I got my first camera in '85 or so. I can totally imagine that the snail must have done something for her photographer's eye, and she wanted to capture it. It's sad that she snapped at you, but maybe she was afraid he was going to step on it. (we saw a young boy absolutely and utterly squash a lizard at AKL (I'm getting sick to my stomach just thinking about it again, everyone who saw it was quite nearly ill at the time), just out of the blue after admiring it and squealing happily about it, so it's not out of the realm of possibilities that a stranger might kill a living thing that you're looking at)

I don't take pix on rides; any possible angle in a ride has been photographed already and surely I can find better pictures through google than I could EVER take. But...taking pictures on rides isn't a new thing.

But I will take time taking zoomed in photos of balconies on storefronts, or tiny bits of lettering. It means something to my eye, my brain, and just plain ol' me. Thankfully I've always encountered people who are incredibly respectful of me standing there with my camera. And those who didn't realize, just like when I walk through on accident, have apologized. It's all good. :)

The thing I really like about the selfie craze is you don't have to wait for someone to take a picture. There is no way you can walk between them and their camera. Given that even Queen Elizabeth is known to photo bomb, I'm not worried about walking behind people either.

This is Disney World. It is crowded as heck. I'm always amazed at those folks that will line up a photo that would block a sidewalk, and then take their time posing and focusing. Most the time they are zooming in. You know the best zoom with a point and shoot or phone camera? Move closer! Takes up less space. People are more likely to walk around you if you give them room to do so. And your pictures are better composed. (First lesson learned in photography class, get closer to your subject.)

In places like Disney, I've found the best details come from looking up. Added bonus, it does't matter where everyone else is standing, you are shooting over their heads.
