What is up with UPS transferring things to the USPS?

This is why I don't like shopping online. It's annoying waiting to see if something will arrive-- usually it takes a lot longer than it seems like it should.

Plus... we got a notice on our door about an attempted package delivery a few days ago. It's being held at the Post Office because it requires a signature (have no idea what it is-- gift from relatives, I guess.)

But guess what? The PO where it's being held "hostage" is open from 8:30-4 only! My husband and I both work full-time, both over 30 minutes away from this post office. So the package is still sitting there until we can figure out how to actually get there to retrieve it.

Sign the 'pink slip' (the form 3849) the carrier left you, and check the box that says 'redeliver'. Put the slip back in your mailbox for the carrier. This will get it redelivered (provided it is safe to leave it out where you live).

It's a method of shipping that started while I was still at amazon, and I quit that job in sept 02, so it isn't new...

I received the item the next day but I have no idea if it was the original or the replacement. I guess I will have to wait and see if the second one ever shows up.

Look at the tracking info from the number on the box. Look at the invoice...some companies will have a new tracking number for the replacement, or you will see a zero charge on the packing slip.

?.. hmmm, I thought that's what "tracking" was for - to keep info updated & current  ... but I digress ...

USPS tracking is specifically for delivery. Same, actually, with UPS. The people that dealt with us as CS reps, who were up higher than the ones dealing with the general public, told us many times that ANY tracking in between start and finish is extra, and is not part of what was paid for.

Fedx uses USPS also. Apparently if they don't have enough deliveries in an area they have USPS deliver it since USPS will be delivering in that area already. Cost saving for UPS & Fedx

DHL does it, too.

That is SO not really true! We've had some hard rain, but how does that affect package delivery? We went to bed one night with blizzard-like conditions; it warmed up in the night, and no trace of white the next morning. Yesterday we woke up to major snow, but none of the schools even thought about closing (and this is Memphis where the first hint of a snowflake usually sends cars sliding off the roads and empties all grocery shelves instantly) because the streets were warm enough to not freeze over. We haven't had ice or bad winds.

Could delay it if the nighttime conditions kept them from driving in the night to get from facility to facility.

I called Buy.com again, and the representative has put in a request to have another one shipped out expedited shipping. I should hear one way or another. If they don't agree, they will refund my money and I can buy it somewhere else. These cards are at least $10 cheaper online, so I'd have to re-order somewhere that has better shipping methods. If the old one comes, they will send me an envelope to return it.

The problem I have with it is this....My youngest lives in a dorm at college. Fed Ex and UPS deliver to the actual dorm and USPS delivers to the post office which in her case are two separate addresses. So now the college recommends putting both addresses on the package!
