I was in Barns and Noble today and before I leave I always check in the kids section to see if any of my childhood books has shown up! anyway as I am entering the children's section there is a little girl reading a book and her mother comes by snatches her up and just starts screaming at her!

she wasn't making any noise, she was in plain sight of her mother and her mom was just going crazy! I heard the little girl say she just wanted to read..... and the mom seemed angered by this

I know I don't know the whole situation but!!! all she wanted to do was read:(

anyway i just had to express my confusion :confused3

Or Mom was a book-burning Nazi. It could happen... It did happen... :scared1:

yeah I was just standing there with Julie's voice in my head about how she loved to read!!!

this might be weird but I love the smell of books ( I love reading too!)

Doesn't your ticker say 1 month and 2 weeks until your 23rd birthday? :lmao:

Seriously though, I know exactly what you mean. How can a parent yell at a child for reading! I understand if the mother got scared for a minute if she lost track of her child, but yelling at them is not going to solve that problem!

I'll be the voice of unreason here.

My DD8 is what you might call a laggard. Always the last one out the door. We never leave for ANYTHING that I don't have to yell, GET IN THE CAR NOW!!:furious: Even after that I will often be seen sitting outside my garage, with the car running, waiting for her to join the rest of the family.

So, maybe after the 4th errand and having to track her down and drag her out of where ever, getting farther and farther behind, starting to run even later and her being like an anchor while I'm trying to move along, etc. I could see me losing it if she sat down reading while I'm trying to pick up a birthday present for her friend so she could go to a party.

No it wasn't me yelling this time but I'm sure I've sounded like a lunatic before yelling at this cute little Shirley Temple look alike with big blue eyes and apple red checks who've stopped to pet a puppy or whatever.

You just never know what happened earlier.

As the father to an abosolute lunatic 3 1/2 year old....Amen to unreason! I try REALLY hard to not raise my voice or get frustrated with her...but sometimes, even when it appears that she's not doing anything...she's doing something!!! Trust me! :D

But who knows, this mom may have just been off the meds, as some of the others have indicated.

When I was in the MK a few weeks ago, it was about 10:30 to 11:00 p.m. and I was in line with my DD for BTMRR. The line was only about 20 minutes long as it was Sunday and extra magic hours were about to start. In line, there was this Dad holding his son, and his son had his head down on the Dad's shoulder, drifting in and out of sleep. He looked sooo tired. The Dad was yelling (truly raising his voice) at him to stay awake and keep his head up because they were going on this ride. I felt so sorry for that little boy. He was barely awake and his body was limp -- like little kids get when they are falling asleep. Yet, he kept trying so hard to keep his head up. I wanted to take that little boy and put him in bed at his hotel room.

I was beyond befuddled that a ride on BTMRR was more important to this Dad than the well-being of his child. It was only one of many examples of harsh parenting that I saw that week in WDW.
