What is up with people not watching their kids???

What a great mom that Jacob had, I wonder if she is kin to the BTMR people who "knew" their kids would come back when they relized they were alone???

twinmomplus2 - You SO did not over react and good for you. If anyone was that irresponsible watching my child, I'd never leave them alone with them again.

Kids are small and they are quick. It makes me wonder where adults heads are. I'm sure in your case she thought "Hey, I'm just going out here for a quick smoke, she can't go anywhere." Well, she should have put the deadbolt and the chain on the door before she took her smoke and made sure she was playing where she could keep an eyeball on her.

Also - amazing that someone would not give up her seat for a PARADE when her small son is lost! Don't these people watch the news?! It would have been horrible if someone snatched her kid but she couldn't be bothered to immediatly leave with her 3 year old to look for her own child! I guess the risk of losing their son was more attractive than losing their seat.

When we were in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground, there were a couple of lost kids, which is easy to do with all the slides and tunnels with more than one entrance or exit.
An announcement was made about a child they had waiting at the entrance. I looked around to see if I could see the frantic parents rushing to get their child when I observed a girl of about 3 crying close to me. When I asked if she was okay, she said she couldn't find her "Nana".
But I had to laugh when I took her to a CM. I told him she was lost. He looked at her and asked her if she was lost. She replied, "No!".
He gave me a really funny look then until I explained she couldn't find her Nana. So I guess it wasn't the child that was lost, it was the Nana!

I haven't seen a lost child at an amusement park yet but I have to tell you about other stupid adults. We are members of the Elks Lodge in our area. We have a very nice pool with lifeguards, lake for fishing and camping. Kids over 10 can go and swim alone without an adult however DS didn't start that until he was 11. A few weeks ago I noticed 2 little boys about 4 and 5 walking around squirting people with their squirt guns. When they got to me I said not to squirt me and they went on. I couldn't find anyone who knew the boys and didn't see any parents they belonged to. They came back later and the older one pointed the squirt gun at me and I said not to squirt me. Well he did. I took off after him and he jumped into the pool. The little one gave up his gun immediately and the 5 year old finally did. I told him we were having a talk with the lifeguard. When he finally got out of the pool I asked him who was watching him. He pointed at me!! I said no I'm not. Where is your mother? He said she was at the campsite. I was so mad. How can parents let kids that small walk to the pool (going on a fairly busy roadway), beside the lake, and then swim in the pool with no supervision? I did report it to the lifeguards but don't know if they did anything about it.

This reminds me of one of my family's favorite stories. When I was 5, my grandparents took my cousins and I to the county fair. Well, I stopped to look at something and when I looked up everyone was gone. Instead of panicking, I looked around for a few minutes and couldn't find them so I walked to the parking lot and found the car (this is a big fair--I can't find my car at the grocery store now--I can't believe I did this at 5, but I do vividly remember it!) They were announcing my name over the intercoms and had security looking for me. No one noticed me because I was not in the least upset. I just sat on the hood and waited--I knew they couldn't go home without the car!

My grandmother would never take me to a fair or an amusement park for the rest of her life--even when I was in my 20's, she would take everyone and not tell me they were going. Her response? "Remember what happened the last time I took you?"
LOL
