What is up with Country Bears?

I was at MK for EMH. The last Country Bears show was shortly before Midnight. I went in, and it was only me. No one else. I told the CM I would leave and he could shut it down early. He insisted I stay and he put me front and center, and told me I could take all the pictures I wanted. He sat next to me and we talked in-depth about the show and the characters. It was pretty cool to have a showing just for me. Like a VIP! princess:

I have always loved the Country Bears show. This is a classic Disney show. I just wish they would of continued the Christmas show.

Oh how wonderful for you!!! I would have loved to have that happen to me

Country is totally tongue in cheek...Guess you were also offended when they wanted to shoot little Buford....like someone said, its been around for 40 years and this is the first time I've seen anyone complain. Big Al and blood on the saddle, etc. is a satire of a western movie---I think the original song was done by Tex Ritter...you have to be pretty deficient in the humor area to find any offense in the show.....doodle doodle do, do whop:confused3

Totally agree! My family loves the country bears!

POC isn't exactly PC either with the sale of women, drunk men bidding on them, chasing women around, stealing, guns, but lots of kids are on that ride.

actually dd loves it and it totally goes over her head

when she starts asking about it we'll sit down and talk about it.

This was our first time going to the "show" and was shocked at some of the songs the bears sang. There's one w/the 3 girl bears and they sing how "every guy that turns them on, turns them down" then the bear on the left singing about blood. "Blood on the saddles, great big puddle of blood" What the heck?
Isn't this Disney? and a kids show? These things went over my 5 year olds head, but really what were they thinking?

The Bears are singing tex ritter's cowboy song.
It's all about a cowboy being shot.
in the show, the entire song is not sung.

Im a ghost to everyone I love.
A phantom.
A banshee.
The child on the roof after dusk.
The first wind over the shipWRECK

Come home. Come home.
My empty body is begging me.
Ohhhooo begging me to come HOME.

Im going to be the last one left.
Im going to kill every bull they send.
You cant drive
your sword in the heart if it wont drop its horns and charge.
My horse is trying its best to run, while its entrails follow in tow.
I never made my mark. I couldnt carry you.

Come home. Come home.
My empty body is begging me.
Ohhhooo begging me to come home. Come home.

Blood on the saddle.
Blood on the ground.
Blood on the saddle.
Blood on the... GROUND.
Entrapment.
Panoptic.
Exhausted.
Exhausted.

No promises kept.
No offering breathing
No promises kept.
No offering breathing
No mercy is infinite
and no infinite mercy mine
All Gods creatures will inherit their own hide

You have to leave me while you can.
Dont obey me, dont obey anyone.
You have to leave me while you can.
Dont obey me, dont obey anyone.
No promises kept.

Come home. Come home.
My empty body is begging me.
Ohhhooo begging me to come home. Come home.
The hushed.
The hushed.
The hushed.
The silenced.
Come home.
Bite down.
Come home.
Bite down until it stops.

Is there anyone here really "offended" by the Country Bear Jamboree? If they are then they might as well not go to Disney World.

I understand that some people had an issue about the Jungle Cruise, because the boat driver has a gun (GASP) and was shooting at the gators. On the other hand look at the Haunted Mansion, in reference to the lady killing her husband, and the Pirates of the Carribean - the Pirates that "WANT" the "REDHEAD", and what about Tom Sawyer? Sheesh.

Thinking back, would you let your children watch the Jetsons? The Flintstones? Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner?

The Jetsons pilot featured George coming home from work, lighting a cigarette, pouring a martini, and screaming at his wife. The Flintstones actually advertised Winston Cigarettes during the show. And playing with explosives, fire, anvils, and other WMDs Wile E? Totally not PC.

Agreed.
Sorry but if the phrase "turns them on" is offense, then that mother is in a for a world of shock at what kids, even 5yrs old know and hear everyday. They are probably more likely to hear something worse just walking through school.
Heck there are simular jokes in Toy Story
Pretty much anything you can find something if your really
want to look.
The world isn't rated G.

Relax, with 40yrs of families with kids seeing it so far, I don't think you could find a case of a child needing theropy from watching CBJ.

You can add my family to the list of those who like the Country Bears. Corny as it is we try to fit in in every trip. And we also miss the Christmas show. I find nothing wrong with the lyrics to the songs. But I am also the bad mother who told my 4 year old daughter what really happened to Bambi's mother and got in trouble with her daycare when she told the other kids.

We live in hunting country so she knew what seeing the deer in the bed of someone's truck or hanging in the front yard meant.

I've never had the pleasure of watching the Country Bears. I guess we will have to see what the fuss is about when we go next time:confused3

Yep - have to agree. I find that wording unacceptable even for me. Not because it is shocking (nothing shocks me anymore), but because I don't want it turning over and over again in my mind.

A song getting quite a bit of air play has this lyric,
'Sticks and stones may break my bones, but chains and whips excite me'

That kinda makes,
"every guy that turns them on, turns them down"
pretty tame.

This past weekend I was a chaperone at a middle school social/dance. I guarded the DJ. :) The DJ only wanted one kid at a time on stage to right down song requests. I noticed that the same kids kept making requests. One little clique of older girls was obviously up to no good. Too much whispering, giggling, daring, and statements of "I will do it." :)

I talked with the DJ a couple of times. The kids were requesting the same songs over and over. They were songs either he did not have or he simply could not play because of the song contents. He showed me the song titles they kids had written down. I had never heard of the songs. I will have to go look them up. :lmao: I certainly cannot repeat the song titles on the DIS. :scared1:

Playing Blood on the Saddle would have been very clean compared to "Crank Dat" by Soulja Boy. One of the parents turned to me when this song was played. The kids loved it. So did this mom. I do not think she would like the song if she knew what the lyrics meant. This is the song that mentions "Superman" and if you listen to Pop radio you have heard this song. Google the lyrics....

Dan

No offense, but I'm sure we are talking about little kids, not middle schoolers.

Any middle schooler who is offended by "Blood on the Saddle" or Country Bears in general must not get out much.

And considering the lyrics can be difficult to understand - not to mention going over the heads of kids, most little kids aren't going to get it, anyway. I hadn't paid attention to it until our last visit. I mentioned this thread to DH, and he couldn't even remember "Blood on the Saddle".

It is just a 1960's way of saying "he is just not that into you"

I don't see anything wrong with it and if you watch the drawings that go along with the song during the show - it is all very innocent.

Try to stick it out until Big Al's tragic performance if you can. He is really the only reason we go any more. :)

I'm convinced that if you try hard enough, you can probably find something to be offended about everywhere you go. If you're offended by the thought of a big, fat, robot bear....sorry -- an audio-animatronic bruin with a glandular disease -- singing a song about blood on a saddle, you'll probably want to skip the Aerosmith pre-show at RnRC. And don't get me started on the blatant stereotypes with Jose, Michael, Fritz and Pierre at the Enchanted Tiki Room.... :lmao:
