What is up with Country Bears?

We are a country bear family. As a child, my husband had a big stuffed Al. And we still have the record with all the songs. And yes my kids go around singing blood on the saddle. But at least they are not singing poker face or The beiber ;)

I went to the show when I was 5 yrs old, and brought my own daughter at age 4 .It is meant to be "tongue in cheek" satire and not meant to be offensive.

Bear Country is disgusting. I dislike it a great deal. Sadly, it makes a great cool place to scoot into while other members of the family safe parade spots in the shade in front of the store just a bit over. :P

Yup! When it comes to being offended by Country Bears it seems to me that it is time to pull on your grownup panties and learn to laugh.

Kids find it funny, adults find it funny and amusing, tweens probably don't find it at all, but it is just a show. Anything at anytime of any day on TV is much, much worse and much less innocent. It is getting pretty close to the time that all this political correctness garbage be replaced by common sense and the ability to actually know right from wrong and how to teach that to your children.

I used to watch the coyote fall off the cliff constantly and never really get hurt, still, not once did it cross my mind that if he could do that so could I. IT WAS A CARTOON. Even at a young age, I knew that.

Um... no. Not it wasn't. At all.

From all I saw, "Rango" was marketed towards fans of Clint Eastwood and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and, err, Johnny Depp's voice ( :confused3 ). "Ants" was targeted towards people who wanted to see a movie wherein Woody Allen is an ant. Both films were rated PG-13, I think. Animation isn't just for children, but thanks for proving that this trope is alive and kicking.

Yeesh, I know, right? Just how many Disney movies has the OP seen? Let's count the fairies and pixie dust in "Victory Through Air Power".

Any movie that they make toys is marketed for kids. When they get a toy in a happy meal advertising a film it's meant to draw kids into watching it. It's meant to be a family movie.

This is actually a pet peeve of mine. The toys they are giving at Burger King right now are from the movie "Thor." There is no way I would ever plan on taking my 3 and 6 year old to see that movie. But of course now the 6 year old thinks it would be cool to see. Sorry buster, maybe in a few years!

We saw the Country Bears on this last trip...the first time I had seen it since my first trip at age 11/12. DH and I were cracking up over our kids' heads...I didn't remember it being so satirical, but probably because it went over my head the last time I saw it too. We all enjoyed it!

DH, DD, and I watched this the last time we were down there. Pretty much my exact quote to DH was, "It's sad that the world's gotten so politically correct that they couldn't make this nowadays." I've been watching it since I was 18 months old, and honestly, that was the first time (at 29) that I really caught some of the references. I guess I've just been too busy enjoying my surroundings, or maybe I just had never paid much attention to the words. :confused3

One other thing that shocks some people is that this lame attraction was an E ticket along with, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Small world.

Sadly, so is The Hall of Presidents.

Yup..and I have to say..Kids generally don't get the references or make a big deal of it unless their parents do.

Last trip the kids finally saw Country Bears. I had not seen it in decades. It is one of my mom's favorite Disney attractions and we would see it every visit which is why I think it took me decades to see it again. :lmao: Country Bears has not scared me for life but IASM certainly left its mark. :rotfl2:

Until the last few decades Disney was not PC. PoC is/was pretty shocking. Bambi is a pretty horrific movie that does NOT go over the kid's heads.

Last trip the DW was sick and ran to the Doc In A Box while my parents, the kids and I went to MK. We went to see the Bears. It was a blast. I cannot believe I had not seen them in all of these trips. We all just laughed and laughed and laughed. Blood on the saddle. Blood on the ground. :lmao: The kids loved it and missed the adult humor.

Given the music that is played on the radio and in school, the Bears are saintly.

Bears is now in my top 10 things to do at MK. I guess I got over my childhood rebellion against what DM liked at WDW. :rotfl: Well, not all, if that Horse Shoe Review is still going on I am NOT seeing it! :rotfl2:

Later,
Dan

Wow people have become so sensitive. Think of it as you would a tv show you turn it off if you don't like it. Don't go to that attraction if it bothers you.

Country Bears is definitely in our top 10. I have always enjoyed it - even in the teenage years (if nothing else to sit down and cool off). It wouldn't be a trip to MK without seeing the bears. DS has already named it our first attraction of our upcoming trip too!

I was upset when WDW changed the scene in POTC to the women chasing the men ... I would rather them portray the attraction, that while fictional itself, is based on history, and allow it to stand as a learning experience.

I find many more things that are on TV today much more offensive than CB.

I love Big Al. It has never even occurred to me to be offended at the silliness of the CB's.

I did not know they had quit doing the Christmas show? 05? really? I could have sworn I saw after that? Guess not.

What did "make love" use to mean? I didn't know it had another meaning?

Offended? Really? Political correctness drives me nuts.

Our family saw this for the first this year and liked it. Of course my dh and ds 11 like to watch "True Tales of the ER" so Country Bears was nothing....:rotfl2:

RANGO was rated PG, but did have a couple of curse words in it. It seemed a bit more for adults than the commercials let on, that's for sure. But that said, my 2 DS's, 10 and 8, had no lingering issues from it. They have heard these words many times before and know not to use them... at least, they don't use them within earshot of me or their mother if they know what's good for them. :thumbsup2

I've loved Country Bear Jamboree since I was a kid. When I was a kid I loved it simply because it was singing bears. When I went for the first time as an adult at age 26 I actually liked it better because I got the humor of it. I was laughing through the entire show:rotfl:

As a single woman, boy can I relate to "every guy that turns me on, turns me down" That song brings a smile to my face just thinking about it :)

In my opinion, Country Bear Jamboree is very true to Disney. I read somewhere that Walt Disney wanted to build a park where adults can get just as much enjoyment as the kids. And with Country Bears, kids can enjoy the singing bears and adults can enjoy the lyrics.

*Edited - Here is where I read that Disney is aimed at both adults and kids:

"Disney believed that both adults and children could have fun in the same place under the right conditions and atmosphere. His vision was realized with the opening of Disneyland in Anaheim, California over 55 years ago.

My mom has never been to WDW, yet she LOVES the Country Bears......I guess they remind her of our family (we really were hillbillies in the mountains of West Viriginia). lol I took my kids to it on our first vacation in 2006....mainly just to get some pics for my mom. The kids weren't overly enthused and neither was I (nor my hubby). As someone else said, it's not a "must do" on our list, but it is a classic and we try to fit it in.

Never has offended me as, I swear, some of my relatives growing up were like that! :) And, like someone else said, many of the jokes go over the kids' heads. They like to see singing bears....they probably couldn't even tell you what they sang.

And as for unPC....have you never seen old cartoons? Namely Bugs Bunny, but Mickey ones, too. And POTC & HM (again, like someone else pointed out)?

I totally agree with you on POTC and the women chasing the men - it does not even make any sense now. It was much funnier when it was the pirates chasing the women until the last one where a woman was actually chasing one of the pirates.
