What is up with all the moved threads?

So again - how many people have asked DIS WebMasters or the BB Moderator either why the threads are getting moved, or - great suggestion on this page - for a Budget Board Community sub-forum?

Using the AG/QVC thread again (I'm not picking on you, I swear! I love QVC; I haven't had to go 'store' shopping for clothes in years!), there's nothing in the title that makes it apparent that thread is budget related. Somebody looking at just thread names would reasonably think it doesn't belong here.

I know and not taking offense. I agree that some posts don't belong. Maybe I should have worded by subject better, :confused3 but I have a feeling it still would have been moved.

I like the idea of a Community sub-forum to the Budget board. I stay away from the regular Community Board for many reasons so I would never see all these threads that were moved there.

As already noted, we've been getting multiple reports on a daily basis about threads off-topic for the Budget Board. These have been coming from multiple BB posters. The ones we find that are topical for other DIS forums have been moved. Many reported threads have not been moved too.

Then really that leaves very little to discuss on the "budget" board, if most topics can be moved. Besides tickets, lodging, dining and transportation there aren't many ways to save at Disney. The other money related threads are being moved to the community boards. What specifically should be discussed on the budget board then?

The reason I prefer posting cost-related questions on the budget board is because there are like-minded savers on this board. If I want to know other things about specific accomodations like who has the best pool, for example, I would go to the resort board, but if I want to know where to stay for less I would come here.

Perhaps the budget board should be moved out of the "trip planning" area.

I just had a post about silver moved. I thought it was budget. It was about money. I would have had better responses on this board. I really didn't get a lot on the Community board. They are too busy fighting with each other over there :rotfl:

You put it into words perfectly. The community board does not work that way so our threads don't work over there.

Oh well.

That free exchange thread will disappear, where it has been moved to, as there are only 7 threads being shown there. New people won't even know it exists.

I get moving them if you don't understand what the thread is about but killing threads that have been utilized for months or years... :confused3

This just makes me sad. :sad1:

The budget board now is a shell of its former self...irrelavant (non-budget) threads and all. I guess people will be happier that NO threads exist instead of skipping ones they feel aren't budget related. Be careful what you wish for...

::yes::

I can kind of understand why some things might be moved but this board works well for even those items on the fringe. For example I posted a thread about the Sheraton Safari Resort on the Orlando board and it was ignored. The same subject got a lot of answers here.

I agree. This is pretty much the only board that I frequent. If these posts continue to disappear there won't be many left here or any that I am interested in.

I guess those "frequent" posters have more of a voice than the "regular" users. I may not post frequently, but I read the boards several times a day.

When posts don't interest me, I just skip over them. Its not like there is an overabundance here that you can't easily do that.

If this is going to continue to happen they need to change the description of this board. I never go to the Community Board and probably never will.

I would like to see a Budget board community board, rather like the camping board has.

I find that I spend most time on this board and have found a ton of great ideas that have saved me money, whether they be menu related, coupons, or other great ideas. I do venture over to the community board, but I find it to be so big that it is very difficult to find posts.

This is definitely an instance where you can't please everyone.

The problem is... it's easy for the complainers to click the report thread tab and immediately alert the moderators when they don't think a topic is appropriate.

But those of us who are OK with a broader definition of what belongs on the budget board, and in fact enjoy having a wide variety of topics to choose from, don't necessarily have an easy way of communicating that.

Personally I think the QVC/American Girl, Lazy Boy quality, and of course anything IRA related are perfectly fine for the budget board. (just a few that were mentioned, I'm sure there are others)

Obviously the final decision is up to the moderators, but please be aware that while you are hearing the squeaky wheels loud and clear with their daily complaints, there are other regular, long time budget board posters who prefer a broader definition of what belongs here.

Long time budget board girl here . I think there are more that are ok with a general budget topic here than they realize.

I have read this forum for YEARS, although you will notice this is my first-ever post. I am also annoyed by the moved posts. This is by far the best budget-related board anywhere. The title "Budget Board" should refer to anything financial, not limited to cost-saving threads. Anything related to financial matters belongs here. As this board gets less and less informative, I am sure there will be fewer and fewer viewers.

I agree -the broader definition works for many that regularily post on this board. Some posts are completely off topic but some even though they don't directly ask a budget question, are about saving even a little bit and we can all benefit from that. These posts do help our budgets. For example: I posted about due dates on milk in the US -at $5.27 per gallon, it is budget related for me to know when I need to throw it away and to not get rid of it too soon.
The Community Board is for really general stuff and to weed through that for some little tips? Ugh!

Very well said & I totally agree!!

This is my favorite section of the forum because EVERY purchase decision I make (from budget-minded recipes & shopping lists to kids shoes to toys to trip insurance) is with my budget in mind, so I appreciate hearing any topic from like-minded people. Whether it's within the narrowest definition of the "budget board" or not.

I'm also quite confused on what topics SHOULD go on this board now that almost everything has been moved to other sections of the site & is much more difficult to access.

I think moving the budget board out of the trip planning section and making it its own section with sub-sections for chit chat/community talk & Disney-specific budget questions is a fantastic idea.

I have been confused by all the moved threads as well. I have never seen a message board so heavily monitored. I too agree that we should have a community board then too or an alternate sub-board to post general money saving queries. I started going here when I was trip planning because I felt I got some of the best, genuine advice on the DISboards. Since then I have kept coming on a regular basis because I feel like I learn a new tip everyday.

Can we get guidelines then of what can be posted here, instead of what should not be posted? From my understanding of the previous posts in this thread anything related to parks, hotels, tickets, cooking, hobbies, trip planning, and retirement planning can not be posted here. What should we be posting then?:confused3

I agree with many of you. There are way too many moved threads, I used to visit the budget board frequently. Now, I barely look at it.

I also wish that if there is a problem with budget board not being Disney related, then create a new budget board under the just for fun section. There is a ton of useful information on this board that dies when the mods move it to another section.

I'm not a frequent poster, but the budget board is the board I go to each day... I find many things budget related, especially the American Girl Dolls, that save us a fortune and let us have more money for Disney. With the moving of topics, I am visiting these boards less frequently... I need to find ways to budget, and reading all these topics has helped!:goodvibes
