Anyone know why Disney skipped over the summer months on the 7 day cruise schedule?

Just rumors now. There should be an announcement on May 5th regarding these rumors. One rumor is that DCL will send one of its ships out to the West Coast for DL's 50th anniversary celebration. There are other threads here already on this subject as well. - Mike

If it goes to the west coast where has it been speculated that it will travel? Alaska or Mexico??

I'm sure it won't be Alaska, that's way too far to go from a California port. My guess is that if they do move to California for the summer they'll either do 7 day sailings, or more likely the popular 3 & 4 day Baja Mexico cruises.

I'd hardly call those 3/4 day cruises "popular." Have you ever been to Ensenada, Mexico? Not exactly the kind of place you want to take your young children. It's a very dirty border town where, the last time I was down there, the most "happening" place in town was "Papas-n-Beer" where drunkin' and topless women are not unheard-of sights.

There have been several threads on this subject in recent weeks. Read the following threads for more rumors, facts, and opinions on this subject than anyone could possibly want:

We made a stop (thankfully) in Ensenada on our Mexican Riviera cruise. We had been confined aboard for 4 days due to hurricane avoidance and bad weather. Anyhow, we had a great time! We shopped and shopped and went back to the ship for more money and shopped some more. The weather was great and we didn't get anymore 'sales pitches' than anywhere else we've ever been in Mexico.
And I didn't find it dirty in the least. Well except for the street where the construction was going on. In fact most Mexican ports I've been to have been cleaner than some US cities I've been in.
I'm sure it has it's bad areas, we weren't there more than a few hours, so we didn't get a chance to partake Papas-n-Beer, but I'm sure it's no worse than places north.

Man we've been to Ensenada and Catalina as well as the Mexican Riviera numerous times and have yet to find it dirty or slummy! If you want to compare dirty and slummy go visit Costa Rica (3rd world type country) or even Jamaica! That is a beautiful but frightening place in our opinion! Ensenada is beautiful and we have yet to see any happening place called Papas N Beer. We've done that cruise section about 12 times in the last 7 or 8 years and have yet to find anything really wrong with it. The ONLY thing that bugs me is just kind of sitting out in the ocean where you are on the cruise and you can still see lights from the land and you just kind of float around..other than that we have absolutely LOVED the Pacific cruises!!! And as for the Papa's N Beer...havent seen it but if that is true then it's about the same as Carlos N Charlies on any given night in Cozumel say about 8-9 pm!! Now if you are talking scummy border towns I think Tijuana is one of those type of towns but not Ensenada.

I keep hoping they'll send it this way!

As much as I'd like to cruise Alaska on a Disney ship, I would NOT want to to do so on either the Magic or Wonder. A few things to think about.

- Deck 9/10, none of the pools are enclosed or externally heated, unless you're a member of the polar bear club I don't think it'd be very fun up there.

- Viewing space. Alaska is goregous. Think good and hard about this - where on either ship are there good indoor PUBLIC places to look out on the sea? Only on Deck 3 on one side, really. You can't count the verandhas here as what if your side is looking out to the ocean?

While some ships not properly outfitted for cold weather go up there, You really would lose out on such a cruise.

Oh 10 day sailings...hm I havent read this one before but I do think that would be good!

The 3/4 night Baja cruises on other cruise lines are rather popular ... but frankly lot of people I know that go on them don't disembark at the ports ... they go on the cruises for the ship amenities :)

Papas N Beer can't be much worse than the nude beaches on St. Martin.
My 16 year old son certainly noticed in the shore excusion booklet the tours that had warnings that they went near nude beaches!!!!!

I am hoping it stays in the carribean hubby and I really want to do ur 10 year anniversary on disney as that is where we went for honeymoon.

You sound like me. We had wanted to do a 10 year anniversary Disney cruise(Western) in the summer of 05 too. Our honeymoon was on the Big Red Boat in the pre-DCL days and to WDW. I finally got sick of waiting, and decided to delay the anniversary until October when we could do the cruise we really wanted to....and for cheaper. ;)
Hope it works out for you too, and happy anniversary! :D

Hey we di the big red boat and honey moon ant disney also what date was your anniversary?? we stayed at the dixie klandings and ut rained the entire time but hey we did not care;)

Oh too funny! It rained on us for our whole cruise and we had some downpours and a hurricane at WDW. WE renamend the ship, the big wet boat.
We were married 7/22/95, sailed on 7/24, and spent 7/29-8/2 at the Poly. Hurrican Erin hit the night of 8/1.

BTW, sorry for the thread hijack here. ;)
