The ROFR thread shows loaded SSR and AKV contracts going for $95 PP!

We fell in love with AKV in January and our thought was "If we return from this planning our next trip, then we should consider DVC". Now we ARE planning when we can visit in the next 2 years and the 10-15% drop in price has me excited. So many people are saying "WAIT! DVC RESALES WILL GO LOWER!", and that might be true! I refinanced my house right before the feds dropped the interest rate by 1/2%. I was originally ecstatic about the interest rate we were getting, but as I signed the closing paperwork (Right after the interest rates dropped) I felt like a sucker. I suppose that is making me a bit cautious. In the eyes of 99% of history my mortgage interest rate is AWESOME!. In the eyes of the last 3 months my timing was the WORST. So now I fear the same thing with DVC.....

But from a HISTORICAL perspective my mortgage rate is great. I only feel bad when I compare it to MIGHT have beens....

From a historical perspective, prices only look good right now compared to the highs they have hit in the past year. They are still well above what they were just three years ago. I just looked at an old blog post from 2017 that had average resale prices. They were almost all lower than the great deals I’ve seen on the ROFR thread lately. Patience!
 
I can’t advise on when you should buy, but if you love AKV I would buy one 200 point contract. I have a 100 point contact and I find ir much harder to use than my 200 point contract.

I'd lean towards all points at 1 location that you love unless you had a very specific reason for a second location and are willing to either use banking or borrowing, to do split stays or to wait until 7 months to combine them together for a reservation. The larger contracts often are a few dollars less per point or more willing to negotiate.

I think it depends on your typical room type. We like 1 bedrooms so 100 points would only get us a handful of nights. We started with 210 AKV resale, added 75 AKV direct, and recently 160 BLT resale.
 
We love AKV! Also been dying to stay at BLT, which I should have bought instead of Aulani. We only bought Aulani because we had planned on going to Hawaii and thought we'd need the 11 month window, but then changed gears and did a cruise to Hawaii instead (although we bought Aulani early so kind of cool to have our founders tile there). With the resale prices starting to go back down again, we're looking at adding AKV and BLT to our contracts right now. I agree with EM Lawrence about the appearance of great deals now as well. Granted, we bought our "newest" resale contract in 2010 (210 SSR @ $69pp), so even the $95 range looks high priced at first glance.
