I was wondering if anyone could tell me what there is to do in and around the DVC resort at HHI? Are there any things that would possibly interest kids at all? It just seems like a very laid back place and when i'm on vacation I like to be on the go and constantly doing things and just wonder if there would be enough to do in the area. If anyone has any ideas on what to do in the area with kids please let me know, i'm not a golfer. Thanks! :flower:

I hope someone answers this ? for you! I know there is a dolphin cruise that is supposed to be very good and that there are some functions at the resort for children. I have not ever been yet so hopefully others will answer :wizard:

Lots of golf.........lots of dining.........there are fishing boats that are walking distance.....the resort itself has lots of activities daily for kids and for adults.....I remember a kayak excursion run by the resort.....you can rent fishing poles from the resort and drop a line in the water off of the resort's pier........There is also a beach house with a pretty sweet swimming pool and direct access to the Atlantic Ocean.................

You've got lots of mini golf courses in the area, shopping.......there's lots of stuff to do, but it definitely is NOT a commando Disney World type vacation.....I'm one of those people who cannot sit still (ie...sit at the beach with a frozen drink)........I last about 12 minutes if I have to do that, I have to keep moving, and I thoroughly enjoyed HHI........

Add to your list: Sea Pines Plantation. Go to Harbour Town and climb the lighthouse, play on the playground, have lunch at Harbour Town Bakery. Visit the horses at Lawton Stables (you can go on a trail ride there if you want, or pony ride if the children or under 8). Go to South Beach and buy one of those ubiquitous Salty Dog Cafe t-shirts.

Our other favorite HH activity is bike riding.

Have fun!

We don't golf and love HH resort - our kids are never bored. We do spend more time in the villa than at DW - but there's a lot going on at the resort - the beach - great restaurants in the area- there's an indoor kids' activity place with bumper cars, video games, ball pit, etc not far from the resort. It is relaxing in a really good way not a boring way...

I doin't golf, but DH does, so I have to find activities I can do by myself. Believe me, there's lots! For one thing, the resort has a pretty good selection of planned activities-beach walks, Nature walks at Pinckney Island, beach combing for shells, etc. And bike riding is fun-the island iw very well-equipped with bike paths. I like to do lots of bike riding and nature walks-Audubon Newhall Forest Preserve, Pinckney Island, Coastal Discovery Museaum; or ride my bike out for lunch-Cracker Barrel, Captain's Seafood, It's Greek to Me, etc. And there are several Minigolf places-I'm anxious to try Adventure Cove next trip.

I don't know how old your kids are, but there's a fishing boat that docks at the marina across from the resort. If the water's not too rough I think it would be a lot of fun. (It was too windy when we were there.) If you have lots of bucks you can probably find a charter.

The bikes are great. You can explore on them.

It's a great place to learn to relax a little.

One more thing: do you like miniature golf? There are about 3 places for that too, and they are pretty good ones. We like the Pirate place. Adventure Cove Family Fun Center also has mini golf (not as good) and an indoor arcade and laser tag. Also, there is another place that is a water park with slides and stuff, can't recall the name offhand.

If you are a tennis player, DVC HH guests have access to the Palmetto Dunes tennis facility across the street. We sometimes have taken clinics there, or just rented court time.

We have been to HH the last 4 summers. The thought of not going can cause panic in my house. :rotfl:

My DS's are 5 & 10 this coming summer and have never been bored with HH. We've always found plenty to keep them entertained.

The kids love to rent bikes and ride back and forth to the beach. We use to put DS5 into one of those tag along kid units. Last year, he made it on his own riding a two wheeler. Proud as could be. :)

They love to crab fish from the pier at the resort. They compete to see which one of them can catch the most. They are little blue crabs. We've seen people keeping them and hear they cook them for dinner. Not us. The kids toss them back so that next year they can catch their friends. Disney will sell you a crab net at the recreation window. It's been $5 the last several years. They also have shrimp they will sell for bait but we've had better luck getting some chicken necks or thighs at the Piggly Wiggly down the street.

We always go on a Beach Combing tour to Dufuskie Island with Scott from Low Country Nature Tours. Scott and his crew do the excursions arranged through Disney. Awesome!!

Lasst summer we went shark fishing with Scott. Another Awesome experience. Not cheap by any means but definately worth the money. My family wants to go twice this summer. :earseek:

The kids love the pools & beach. We spend a lot of time at both.

We've talked about doing a side trip to Charleston or Savanah. Somehow we've never found the time. :sunny: :rotfl2:

Have a great trip!

HH is my home resort and we have never been there! We are planning to go in the summer of 2006. I've heard so many good things about it and I cant wait to go! :sunny:
