What is there a difference between Toy Story Mania at HS and Buzz Lightyear Spin at MK? They are both rides where you go around an shoot at things, correct? o_O

Title should be "What is the difference?"

So if you had 2 girls ages 8 & 5 and could only pick 1, which one would you suggest :rainbow:

They are different. Toy Story Mania stops your vehicle in front of targets where you shoot for awhile then they move you quickly (with jarring turns) to the next target scene. Buzz Lightyear allows you to shoot at targets within large scenes with a laser light. You can control whether your vehicle points to the left or right scene as you move through the ride. Less jarring than Toy Story Mania. (I should add that you pull on a ring attached to a string in Toy Story Mania. It then shoots electronic balls at the targets. Faster action needed from hands on Toy Story than Buzz, in my opinion.) Hope this helps!

TSM turns the car for you , letting you concentrate more on aiming. For little ones this may be advantageous. Unless you turn the car ( in Buzz ) and just let them shoot, but they won't always know which way you are going next.

Agree with the PPs but i still like the other Buzz ride. Why would you have to pick only one? They're in 2 different parks and while Toy Story practically requires a FP, Buzz can often be found with a reasonable wait.

Just wanted to add that with Toy Story, you're shooting at a 3D screen. Each time your car stops, it's timed, and when time runs out, they quickly wheel you around to another screen. Buzz has tangible targets and moves at the same slow pace on a track between different rooms.

IMO, Toy Story is the better ride. I'm sure there's YouTube videos of both rides if you want to see first hand.

TSMM is generally seen as the preferable ride. But if you want to start a scoring war, it's far easier to do return trips on Buzz.

It's probably my husband's favorite ride at Disney. Really.

Just don't fess up if you research scoring tips before riding. It never goes over well. :)

I much prefer Toy Story Mania. I think the 3D is fun, and the way the vehicles swoosh you around, plus the different midway games. But the big reason is because I feel like I can actually score points at Toy Story. It seems like my aim is better and actually improves as I play. On Buzz, everybody is just shooting little red dots everywhere and I do horribly. I just ride it because my husband wants to.

Toy Story for the 3D animation. My kids (12 & 8) love it!!! Buzz is just okay to them.

The only time I get a good score is when they have to stop the ride for whatever reason. You can continue shooting, my husband and I just pick a target right in front of us and go to town.

BTW, your costumes are awesome!

Why would you need to pick just one? (Unless you only have one park day and no hoppers, in which case MK > HS, especially with kids.)

I think most people would say TSMM is the superior ride, but I actually prefer Buzz (I'm not crazy about TSMM - to me, it's a glorified video game). They're very different rides. It's hard to siccintly describe them both; I'd also suggest watching YouTube videos.

Thanks! :)

Next time you go, google Buzz Lightyear ride tips. It helps to see where the higher value targets are.

Not that I've ever done that...... say, while waiting in line to ride........ :rolleyes1

Thanks guys. My girls aren't huge Toy Story fans. We just won't be able to do everything at MK. I will just have to pick and chose. Since they have never been to MK they don't have any favorites....yet.

Toy Story is easier than Buzz. My 2yo can score a few points on Toy Story. She has yet to hit anything on Buzz.

Buzz - sore thumb. Toy Story - sore wrist. :)

TSMM is better than Buzz at WDW, but the Buzz version at Disneyland is actually the best! You can hold your gun for a more natural aim, rather than it being on a restricted swivel.

IMO, this is sort of like asking "what is the difference between the Barnstormer and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad?"

Ok, maybe not exactly like asking that, but... :)

I like TSM much, much more. More responsive, the scoring makes more sense, and you don't have to count on your incompetent 9-year-old daughter to spin the car in the right direction to aim properly. That said, I still enjoy Buzz, but not nearly as much as I did pre-TSM.
