Hi

My husband and I are due to travel in June 2003, but we have found out my husbands exams are due the day we leave.

We are changing the dates for 14th December, to be there for christmas and my daughters birthday on the 18th.

What is the weather like? I have heard it is cold at that time of year and most water parks are closed.

What are the christmas celebrations like over there?

Any information would be great.

Cheers

Hi Michelle,

We have been a few time in Dec and are going back Dec 2003, so it cant be that bad:)

The weather is unpredictable, we have been when it is really warm and when its really cold;)

The water parks take turns to close, when one is shut the other is open..

The celebrations and atmosphere is really nice.
It does get a bit busier towards Christmas.

This is what is happening this year at WDW as a rough guide.

Events for Dec 2002

Hope this helps you

Hi Michelle,

we went Xmas last year and it was cold. Very cold. Although we did buy MM bobble hats to keep warm which we wouldn't have done otherwise.

We did have a fantastic time there but would not go again at Xmas having done it now. It was very festive and we are glad that we have had the experience but we felt that we missed Xmas. Had the weather been good it would have been more enjoyable but the cold weather put us off. So take our advice and take warm and hot clothing so that way you wont get caught out.

Dont let this put you off as it is an amazing experience and as you would expect the Disney team make it a magical xmas

We're just back from WDW and can report first-hand about the weather - it was just plain horrid! Wet and cold nearly all week, which puts a serious dampener on things (especially for MVMCP at the MK). Having said that, crowds were relatively light, so it was quite easy to get around (although some restaurants were still booked solid), and the Xmas atmosphere is quite magnificent (including the truly mind-boggling Osbourne lights).

In all honesty, it is something of a trade-off at this time of year. You CAN get lucky with the weather and be quite warm and sunny (we had just one warmish day in 7), but the Xmas festivities are really worth seeing, IMHO. Like Paul & Shirley, I'm not sure we'd hurry back at this time of year (April or October would be preferable, weather-wise), but it was a great family experience (and would have been better if we'd packed some proper cold-weather clothes!). The general recent pattern is for colder Decembers, which rules out the chance of a water park day (always a highlight for me), but it is really a question of which you prefer.

The first 2 weeks of December last year I heard were very warm and dry. This year as Simon says the weather hasn't been so good. I just got back from 2 weeks there and had some cold drys days and some rainy warm days and finally one very cold grey day. The local news networks said that it so far has been one of the wettest December's in a long while.

I was able to wear shorts at least 3 times. I also went swimming twice where as normally I would go everyday when I visit at other times of the year.

That said there were hardly any lines alhtough I understand that it gets busier in the run up to Christmas.

Each resort has a magnificent tree and other decorations. The holiday spirit is great and it does feel quite magical being there at this time of the year even though the weather isn't so hot.

If a tan is important to you then I wouldn't go at this time of the year however if you just want to enjoy yourself and don't mind the weather then you should have a ball with little crowds.

Having just got back the weather can be variable but I believe that it has been much wetter this year than usual. While it hasn't been as cold as the UK, you wouldn't usually be sitting watching shows in the temps that we had.

Would say that xmas Disney style is pretty fantastic. I took the xmas tour while out there and Holiday Services are now getting ready for next year! Also the Osbourne lights at MGM, Wow is all I can say! If my mum saw these phew the electric company would love us!

Also in general the crowds were reasonable so could get a lot done.

If you have any questions I will try and answer.

Hi,
Also just got back after two weeks out there. This is the 2nd time we have been at this time of year and I think it may be the last. (I did say that last time) The decorations are wonderful, the Osborne lights spectacular. The weather yuk!!!! We had one day in the 80 s the following day in the 40s cold rain and clouds with a couple of sunny days and part cloudy days. The rainy days were warm.
We still enjoyed the holiday but it is not the same shivering on a bench watching the shows. Take with you clothing for all occasions.
Lynda (ps have booked mid April next year)
