My daughter is a senior and applying to colleges. She would like to attend Texas A&M, but we have been getting various reports as to whether they offer her major (B.S. in nursing).
Finally, it was clarified that Texas A & M offers the nursing degree from Texas A&M Health Science Center. She would go and do a year at the TAMU campus, and then apply to nursing school at the TAMHSC across town. The rest of her classes would be at the HSC and her degree would actually say TAMHSC instead of TAMU.
Okay, I understand all that. We were fine with that up until we were told that once she was in nursing school, she would not be able to live in the dorm, attend sporting events as a student, use the recreational facilities, or get an Aggie ring.
Well, at that point we decided we'd go ahead and send her to one of her other top schools where she could finish her degree as part of the student body and not a second class citizen. I just can't understand the rationale behind those decisions. She would recieve a Bachelor's Degree just like the other students. I understand the Health Science Center is across town, but when you are a part of the University System in the same town as the University, what would be the motivation for students to go to school at the HSC?
For my daughter, she is a bit bummed but there were other schools that were just as high on her list as TAMU, so she's not devastated, and I'm just annoyed, but mainly I just want to understand why they would cut themselves off from a group of students.
