What is the purpose of a sitting room in a master bedroom?

Hiding out from your family??

Maybe to just get away from the kids and sit and read a book for a bit.:confused3 I don't get the 'formal dining room'. One place for a table is all I need and it sure doesn't have to be formal.

To have a chair to put your clean clothes on until you decide to put them away.

Are you kidding me? I couldn't do without mine - it's a great place to toss 'stuff' so it doesn't accumulate on the kitchen counters. :thumbsup2

So that's why my kitchen counter is so cluttered!:rotfl:

And, it's very convenient for ironing - you don't have to worry about putting away the iron/irong board. And, it's a buffer for laundry - piles of dirty sorted by type on the floor, and piles of clean clothes waiting to be put away.

I have a nice little sitting area and I sit and read or sit and use my laptop or just chill with a glass of wine. I like it, it's comfy. It'd be more use if I had a TV though!

Oh, I would love to have a master bedroom big enough for a sitting room or area. A place to go to read a good book in a comfortable chair, rather than having to be actually in bed. A fireplace would be nice too, and have a couple chairs and maybe a loveseat....nice. :)

Wouldn't a den suffice? Or a living room?

to relax........we actually use ours!!!!:)

we spend all our time in there after DD is in bed. I have my comfy chair up there, a hutch with the TV....we spend every evening up there. I spend time up there during the day if I am feeling run down or just want to read or relax. It is also easier to keep an eye on DD if she outside playing - better view from the front than downstairs. I love it! We are just "retire to the bedroom" people - we did this even before we had a bedroom with a sitting room. It is just somehow more realxing for us. I agree with "Chatty.."...a fireplace would make it perfect!

I also have my excercise bike there - push it out in front of the TV. Now that does spend time with laundry on it, but that is another issue (and one I have started to turn around!!!).:)

the dining room we could probably live without!

I would love to have a bedroom sitting room too! It is definitely on the list for my next house. We already have a family room and a living room, but they aren't a substitute for a sitting room IMO. I like to go upstairs to my room when I put my kids to bed. I rarely ever stay downstairs past 8:00. So, I do all of my reading, watching TV and computer surfing in my room at night. A sitting room would sure make that more pleasurable. :)

We're building one right now. The kids will have to go through 2 doors now if they want me, so I hope it'll cut down on some of their frivolous wants!! :lmao: Seriously, we have a small house. It has the great room/kitchen combo, which means I'm with the kids ALL the time. I need a place that's just for me. No clutter, some nice artwork, candles, a good book.

Wouldn't that be Heaven!! :goodvibes

I would love to have a bedroom like that & dining room. I would even love to have a walk in closet big enough to put a chaise in their so I could hide out! :lmao:

I put a little futon couch in ds' room so he has a place other than his bed to sit, especially if he has friends over. He has some fold away chairs too.

I don't get the people that put couches in their kitchen. Like a sitting room to watch people cook?!?!? :confused3

My parents put a big chair that converted to a twin bed in their sitting room. It's where us kids slept when we were sick. Kept us close enough for Mom and Dad to hear how we were doing, but separate enough not to infect them.

We have a sitting room in our bedroom and I love it. Ours is more like a sitting nook with enough room book shelves along two walls and two comfortable chairs with a table. It is my place to get some quiet time. DH likes it because when I want to read at night, but he is ready for sleep I can read there instead of in bed. We also have a kitchen table and a formal dinning room. The kitchen table is great in the morning or for a quick meal. We use the formal dinning room for dinner most of the time. You can't see the tv from there and it forces us to talk instead of stare at the tv.
