When combining room, tickets, and dining plan, how does one calculate how much is being saved by buying all 3 together through Disney?

The only place you will save is in dining plan (they say 20% over paying OOP) unless you receive a discount.

UC is def cheaper for tix if buying a full price pkg without discounts.

A package is not cheaper. A room + tickets package is just that. No discount unless specified as a special offer. A package is required if you want one of the dining plans. Again, no discount unless specified as a special offer (ie: free dining).

The only savings that you (might) get is on the total cost of your food expenses. If you choose your dining very carefully it is possible to save some money with the dining plan vs paying OOP for the same food.

This is what I thought but didn't trust my math. Actually the website now says it's a mere 10% savings for QS and 15% for the TS plan. I think I'm better off getting my AAA room discount and paying OOP for dining. (We're going in May '13). Frankly, the only perk would be the convenience of the DP, and if I'm micromanaging our meals, that's counterproductive. Plus I have a 10-year-old (Disney adult) who eats bird-like portions, so I have to figure that in as well.

when we went last year using a room discount and no DDP, my youngest (13) had no problem ordering off the kid's menu so I'd probably just pay OOP for meals if there's no FD discount provided

This is what we are planning (just 2 adults). We're just waiting to see if we get a PIN or a room only discount comes out. No DDP for us anymore. We'll probably end up getting our tickets separately from either CAA or UT.

You'd have to price out all components separately to see exactly what everything costs. It is possible to get a room discount and add on DDP & tickets, making it a package. Or get free dining.

We booked a room only last January and went without DDP, and saved $. Still ate TS most nights. We ate at the less expensive TS, we don't drink pop, so water is fine, shared a dinner dessert, and didn't have desserts with lunch. It was just 20 something daughter & me.

We shared 1 or 2 lunches- the pasta at POR food court is Huge, and so are the SciFi sandwiches.
I took about what we would have paid for DDP, and put it on a WDW gift card, and used that for dining. It was just like having the DDP, just show a different card :goodvibes

That's a great idea!

I agree with you, the DDP only saves you $ if you would actually eat everything that you get even if you didn't have the DDP. We never eat desserts at counter service meals so that $4 each would not be spent and we usually don't do snacks so that $ would not be spent either. For us it just is not worth the money.

I got a AAA room discount and am very happy with the price. I have decided to OOP for food since their is no free dining being offered during our stay in August.

We are also going for 9 nights instead of our usual 7 and going to SEA WORLD.

We got an 8 day hopper w/water park and more option.

To figure out the different prices, I toggle back and forth adding and taking away each item. Park tickets are never discounted via WDW- except the very rare 'free kids' promos. Usually the discount is off the room, or free dining plan.

You can also use a site like Mousesavers to get rack rates on tickets, rooms, and find out what % the discount is.

Since you have AAA, you can also get a discount on the park tickets. I prefer getting a room only from disney then buying park tickets from AAA and paying OOP for dining. I only get a package if I can take advantage of a FD promotion. Room only & AAA tickets are also easier to cancel last minute without a fee/penalty.
