What is the ONE thing you would change about DVC, DVC rules?

It appears to be that way with CA resorts. My understanding is it is because of the way the law requires it?

For WDW, you can search for HA if you want it, but it doesn’t do the opposite…..the main search is both.

It’s a good question to ask DVC as to why they don’t have it set up the same way

Boardwalk isn't like that though. It is split there. I know this because when we decided to just start our trip at WDW this summer only HA 2br was left nothing in the normal search.

That's why I was confused.

Luckily we got our extra days at BCV to come through though and freed the room back up for someone. As it was the last room available and just 5 months out I felt I was okay at that point to book it while we looked for a normal room.

Sounds like the GV at Boardwalk might be different though possibly because there is a single room?

Maybe? Most of the resorts I have checked have always shown HA gone when checked if I wasn’t seeing the regular.

So, I’d never seen what you have found. Which, of course, makes sense as to confusion!

In terms of bookings? If I did only see an accessible, I’d book it if there wasn’t anything left in regular.

Yes, maybe that’s it, the low number of GV there. In total there are 7 GV. Two are 2-story and 5 are single story. Of the 5 single story, 1 is HA, so IOW there are 6 non-HA GV at BWV.

We walked our January reservation, so I’m not sure whether FCFS applies or not. It’s entirely possible we got the HA because I repeated my request 3 times for a single story due to having a 20 month old toddler with us. We’ve been assigned HA rooms at other hotels too, and as I said they have their quirks and annoyances, but I’d rather have a HA room than no room.

Sorry but I’m confused.

You can search HA rooms at all resorts and they only show that inventory.

If you don’t check the box the standard room inventory is shown of what is available. This happens at all properties to my knowledge unless they have changed things?

While I don't think I have had an accessible DVC room, I have had others in hotels/timeshares and everything was lower such as the sink, etc. That's annoying for me at my height.
Definitely agree that the lowered height of everything can be annoying, at best. At 6'7" even "normal" sinks, tables, beds, etc. are too low for me. Accessible rooms are torture. I try to avoid them at all costs. I personally, prefer the way it's handled at VDH, where they don't mix the two room types into a single category. To me, that method makes the most sense overall.

My understanding is that for the CA properties, the HA rooms are not part of the regular inventory when you search.

So, when you search rooms but don’t don’t check accessible, you are only seeing the non HA availability.

For the FL properties, at least in my experience, the availability that is showing when you don’t choose accessible includes them when showing availability.

Let’s say the only room left is an accessible one, it will show as available whether you choose accessible or not…

Meaning, there doesn’t seem to be a time where I have accessible available when regular was showing none.

Again I could be wrong but I don't think that is the case.
WDW, VB, AUL & HHI follow the same model as CA properties from my experience.

For example I am looking at a particular date in December 2025 at Boulder Ridge.

There 2 Rooms available in the standard booking category for a studio (Not clicking the "Accessible Rooms" checkbox)
BRV actually has 4 different HA room types and all have rooms available and indicates there are 6 HA rooms.
If we add that up we would see that there are actually 8 total rooms available at BRV for this date.

I interpret this the same was as @Sandisw.

There are only two studios left total at BRV for that particular night regardless if it's standard or accessible, not eight. The FL special and wheelchair accessible showing one means only one is left in inventory because only one of each exists or is left in inventory. Hearing accessible and wheelchair accessible shows two because there are two studios left in total and at least two are designated to both of those accessibility categories.

If someone booked one night in a standard studio, each accessible category would only show one room left. If someone booked two nights in a standard studio all categories would be sold out.

WDW will assign the accessible rooms to those booking standard studios so the inventory is pooled together. Booking the accessible category will take one of those accessible rooms out of inventory and also drop the standard search at the same time.

I was actually playing around with this at the cabins because you need a wheelchair accessible cabin for a ramp even if you only have an ECV. There was one night showing. I booked it standard and all the categories including accessible were sold out. I cancelled it and the cabin went back into inventory. I booked it as wheelchair accessible and it was sold out again in all categories including the standard cabin search.

Thanks I see what @Sandisw was saying.

Of course now my example night I can't even book it as it keeps stating "Service Unavailable" but it serves me right for not booking it right away 🤦‍♀️

Since WDW doesn’t assign HA rooms until check in, unless specifically booked, all the types can show open because of that!!!

That is how owners end up with HA rooms because the availability is pooled and HA only come out specifically if it’s booked that way.

You cannot be a member without the number of points for at least a one bedroom in midseason for an entire 7 nights at your home resort. Anything less, is piling on costs for the rest of us. Someone buys a resale for 50 points- banks and borrows so they can get a few studio nights but gets all the mailings, all the benefits, all the DVD management at a tremendous cost to the REAL members.

Sorry if someone already suggested as I'm behind on the thread and only had time to scan though a few pages.

Allow some flexibility on use of restricted points as long as the member A) owns some reasonable # of direct points and B) the reservation is made with a reasonable % of direct points.

Example - we are planning ahead for a big family trip in 2027 to WDW where I'll be hosting and booking the rooms on points. I'd love to have Riviera on the list of options and it could work but we'll likely end up at BWV, AKV, or WL(CCV/BRV) or another resort. Likely 60 to 70% of the points used for the trip will be direct points but a portion of the points we would consider using for the trip are resale. I have a few aunts/uncles etc. in the group who would be a prime target for considering buying some DVC points but they will be blocked from seeing one of the newer resorts in the portfolio (more than likely).

Do you mean not assigning accessible rooms to guests who didn’t specifically book one? Personally, even though our accessible villa for our last stay in January had its quirks and annoyances, I would rather have that than no villa at all! And if I found out we weren’t able to get a villa at all, while an accessible villa went empty because no one booked it, well, I’d be angry.
I should have this option. I would rather have no villa at all. We are tall people, our 3 kids are all over six feet, and the discomfort and complaining I hear the entire vacation really ruins it. Obviously we still have a good time but it is by no means a deluxe vacation. It is more like camping for us where everything is awkward. Just as I can choose to book a theme park view etc, I should be able to pick to have a regular room.

Which benefits would a 50-point owner get? None of the DVC-Y benefits, unless they bought those 50 points before 2019. And what cost to other members? Obviously, I don’t understand your point. Please elaborate.
