What is the nicest thing someone has ever said to you?

A group of people that I volunteered with on a special project for about a week told me at the end of the week that if I ever ran for office they would vote for me!

I have a dear friend who always goes out of her way to say "I'm so glad you're here," or "I'm with my favorite people." I've adopted that for my DGDs (whom I do love, of course) when they come to visit. Sure I tell them I love them, but "I'm so glad you're here"...does it get any better?

I had an aunt who I admired so very much. When she would introduce me to someone, she would always say I was like one of her own children.

Any compliments about my kids or how I’m raising them is the best. After that, it’s definitely when some of my students tell me that they wish I was their mom or I’m like a second mom. Sometimes it breaks my heart because I know their home life is not great.

An older lady in our town who is "difficult" under the best of conditions and hard to get along with smiled and told me how gracious I am. I could have fainted! Really...she's "difficult" and no one has ever heard her utter anything resembling a compliment, but now...she's one of my favorites! :)

One that stands out is a note I received from my son's high school sweetheart long after they had graduated from school, and after she had already started her own family. She sent me a Mother's Day greeting and told me that I had made a good impact on her life, and that one day she hoped to be as good a mother as me. It really touched me.

I did think of a specific incident. We stopped at a diner out of state and got the same waitress we'd had several months earlier. She asked if we had been there a few months prior and of course we said we had. She then said, "I thought I remembered you. You just have such a nice, little family".

Anything "nice" anyone ever told me ended up being conditional on its terms... and ceased to be true when I was no longer useful to said person. :(

Therefore I do not trust compliments.

This is sad!! Lots of people are nice, sincere people, you know! I can always tell when someone says something to me or compliments me if they mean it or not. Learn to trust!! :)

Three come to mind instantly:

My mom told me my ham and bean soup was just as good as hers.

My oldest wrote about someone important to her and chose me and wrote that I always am kind and stand up for her and love her and that it taught her to be kind and stand up for people when they need it.

And my DH, when I just delivered our oldest and was holding her in my arms, he looked at me and said, "You've never looked more beautiful."

My 9 yr old told me that she thinks I'm beautiful. :flower1:
OMG for some reason that reminds me. My DD 9 was probably 2/3 at the time. She was flipping though one of my books and said, "Oh look Mama, a picture, a picture of you!" And handed it to me.
It was Stephen King's the Stand, and a picture of a decomposing corpse. So probably not the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me but I still laugh about it.

I love threads like this! These are great!

It warms my heart when patients and their families ask if I'm coming back the next day, and are happy if I say yes, and sad if I say no.

I had a patient and his sister recently who I knew were significantly younger than me. They were telling me a story and said, "You'll see when you get to be our age!".

And I'll never forget the day during chemo that my then six year old son asked me to take my wig off so he could see my bald head. Without as much as batting an eye, he said, "You look beautiful, Mom".

Recently a dad of one of my students told me there will be a special place in heaven for me.
I’m not even religious but thought that was a very sweet thing to say!

When I was in my twenties a young girl of maybe 8 just walked up to me in a store to tell me I was the prettiest girl she ever saw. That always stuck with me!

I didn't include family but my oldest DGD told me I was the fun Mema, her Nana (DIL mother) was kinda mean at times. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

35th high school reunion someone’s comment to me
“ you don’t look as fat as you used to “

Lol, I giggled

She meant it in a nice way

People often compliment me on how fast I could eat a pizza

Today a student told me she loved me! I had just spent an hour on the phone getting her financial aid fixed. Every time I think about leaving my job, I get one of those great students like that. So here I am, still there.

My dgds saying “I love being at your house”

Each of my kids have at least one friend that calls me Mon. Since they are all grown now, it makes me feel good to know I had an impact on their lives.

My baby daughters cardiologist told me 33 years ago as she was being discharged from Childrens hospital after open heart surgery after being in the hospital for three monhs, that I was a good mother. Never forgot it.
