What is the new breakeven for an AP?

With the new Magic Your Way Tickets that you can get that do not expire, is it still 8 days that makes you breakeven on AP?

to me, the answer is no.

An AP costs 420.68 and only gets you the 4 main parks, and in comparison, a 10 MYW park hopper with no expiration is 366.36, and 353.58 if you purchase in advance. So, the AP not a good deal until you get over 10 days use. I did not add the plus options because they are not included in the AP.

One other thought with the AP is how much will it save you in discounts. If you drive in and park, the parking is free with AP, not included with MYW. Also, the AP can get you room, meal, and other discounts, so if you could figure that cost into your calculations, the AP could come out ahead!

This is no longer the easy decision it used to be for us, but with the DVC discount, we are going with an AP this time. With out the DVC discount, we would have purchased MYW tickets and it would have been the first time in a LONG time that we were not AP holders!

We are having a really hard time deciding between the MYW park tickets and an AP this year. We are going in May and are going to try and plan a return trip the first week in Dec , but I am nervous that could easily fall through and then we are out a lot of money. I have also thought about possibly doing a 10 day non exp MYW and we would just have less time in the parks when we return. We don't do a lot of the plus features so that is hardly ever a deciding factor

For us, plus options aren't that big a deal right now. Our children are young and the pools are exciting enough for them. Disney Quest...no way yet!

With AP, we got (and hope to get in Dec) great rates at the hotels we wanted to stay...and did the Dining card so that saves us at restaurants eating meals of our choosing. Don't know if it will work out we'd ever do it again....but this year, it was the perfect sol'n

We are going in June for 10 days and got AP. Staying in the value hotel, we saved about $250. We like to go at the end of May but we decided to push the vacation ahead two weeks, and go next May at the end of the school year. That way we get two vacations out of it. Plus, we are planning on going over a weekend in Sept. for DDs 3rd birthday (checking in the day before she turns 3 so she is free the entire trip!) and President's day weekend for DS 9th birthday. But even without the weekend trips, if you go every year and can space out your trips by 1-2 weeks, AP can be a lot cheaper.

Including park hopping, not including AP benefits, and not including MYW advance purchase discounts, the break even is about 12 days for both regular and premium.

You can buy two 10 day non-hopping expiring passes for less than one AP.

I thought that if you were a wdw resort guest you got free parking anyway, so if you plan to stay onsite thats not really a big perk.

I've heard rumors that DQ (Disney Quest, not Dariy Queen ) may not be around for too long, might be turned into somthing to do with ESPN??? I'm not sure, but I didn't go on my last trip but am going to make sure I check it out before it's gone.

I have it planned so we'll get 11days from our APs this Aug
and 5days from our APs next Aug (before a DCL cruise)
I bought DS & myself APs with the DVC $100 discount

We went with the 10-day MYW - our deciding factor was the finite timeframe of the AP. We usually take two 3- or 4-day trips there per year, so at the time an AP would require renewal, we would likely have a 2 or 3 days left on the 10-day-no-expire hoppers. In short, I suppose we wouldn't get to the break-even point.

Being DVC members this was a much easier choice for us. Also, since joining DVC our park touring habits have completely changed. We will often stay at BCV most of the day and decide to go to a park just for dinner or fireworks or just a favorite ride. With MYW tickets we would still be burning an entire day to do this. That would make me sick. I no longer fret about losing a day on my ticket because I needed a little down time for a day, but still wanted to get in the middle of the "magic" for just a little while.

BTW, we were at WDW last Thanksgiving for 7 days and will be there again in June for 10. So anyway we look at it, we are all good on the break even point.

I say, if you're staying on Disney property, it's a no brainer - The AP discount will save you more than the difference. If you take more than 1 trip a year, you're just that much farther ahead.

I wouldn't suggest buying an AP just for the possible AP discount on resort rates. There have been times where no discounts were available, even for AP holders.

I know what you're saying is true, but in the 6 trips I've taken using AP's (over 3 years), I've always been able to use an AP discount on my room. Plus, you can wait until codes come out to decide because you don't need to have the AP when you book the room...only need it by check in, so you can make the ticket decision based on whether AP rates are offered.

WOW, I'd be surprised. With Disney adding all those extra pluses w/ the longer MYW tickets I assumed (ok, a dangerous thing) that it was to get more people to think of going to DQ or the water parks, if only for a couple of hours. They become pretty "cheap" options. If they take away DQ...then you find yourself w/ an awful lot of extra days to spend at the 2 water parks. Just how many times can you go there during a trip???? I suppose it becomes an extension of your hotel pool in a sense. You go to the water park, instead of your pool?
