What is the most unusual request you've seen someone make (or made yourself) and seen happen?

Our tablemates on our first cruise were of Indian descent and so were our servers. They were also vegetarian. They requested "whatever you [the servers] eat will be fine". Every night we were treated to family-style fresh made Indian food along with our dinner selections. It was AMAZING. The best Indian food I've ever had.

Apparently, on their previous cruise they asked their servers what the crew ate and their servers mentioned that many of the cooks cooked Indian food for the Indian crew members. Since it didn't add any trouble, the servers on that ship brought them food every night, so they made the same request on our cruise.

Ok, so Ive also seen this done with Filipino food as many of the kitchen and server crew are Filipino. Because of limited availability, they can only prep 1 or 2 dishes. On two of our cruises, we sat near other Filipino families who made this request. One dish available is chicken cooked in soy sauce and vinegar. The other is a sour soup which our Filipino waiter said doesnt taste quite authentic anyway onboard because they dont have all the true ingredients and just sub whatever they have. I heard 1 family say they were from Los Angeles. I find making this request odd because Filipino food in Los Angeles can be cheap. super cheap. and readily available. so making this request on a pricey cruise when seafood and steak and other gourmet meals are available is odd to me.

One of the families in our cruise group mentioned to us that their kiddos' sheets had changed from white to Disney print, so I went to the front desk to inquire about these "cool sheets" and how we could maybe get them for our 4 year old. I asked if it was something we could pay extra for because we were trying to make DD's first Disney experience as magical as possible. She sort of played like she did not know what I was talking about but would look in to it. The girls at the desk asked more questions about our trip...found out we were a military family and had been hoping to get leave for a WBPC cruise for years. We had gotten to know most of the staff fairly well because DD was just SO excited to be on the cruise...and there were less than 200 minors on the entire ship. She assured me she would "find out about these special sheets and let me know".

Well, some Pixie Dust magic floated our way and the next day we were "family of the day". I did not know what it was...but she had the sheets, there was champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room, an adorable stuffed elephant with a giant DCL bow in its neck, a bottle of wine delivered to our table at dinner...I'm trying to remember what else...I later realized (from reading here on DIS) that the sheets were not an "every kid gets them" type of thing and we were extra lucky to have been nominated or whatever they do.

So, you can ask your MDR server to have this brought as your appetizer in the MDR? Is there an extra charge? This would be AMAZING (I love cheese)

They have never charged for it. We request it on the first night and tell them we want one every night -- unless they change it since we last did it in 2014.

I don't want to take advantage of anyone but I hear the edges of surprising stories and they are fun to read.
This thread has some great info being shared in it! Thanks so much for posing this question. :)

We liked your thread so much that we featured it on today's edition of the DIS Daily Fix!

Awesome! Thanks guys!

I asked the concierge if 2 cups of sliced fresh strawberries would be possible. This was back when you could carry liquor onboard and I was making 2 2-qt carafes of Hippie Juice to have. When I asked the response was, "What day and what time?" Cool! So on the day I specified I returned to our room and found 2 bowls each with a cup of perfectly sliced strawberries in it.

Hubby & sons all adore the French onion soup. We've had servers bring each of them 2 cups of French onion soup every night of the cruise.

My oldest son went to Palo dinner alone one night. The server he had was one who knew our family pretty well. So my son asked the server if it was possible to forego his chocolate souffle if it could be covered up so he could take it to his Mimi (she was sailing with us) because she loved that souffle so much. Not only did Alvaro bring my son his own souffle, he insisted on walking my son back to our room(s) so he could personally deliver Mimi's souffle and say hello.

I can't think of anything else really all that out-there. We're mostly pretty easy-going and don't ask for much.

from what I've read, these don't seem unusual, but they do sound amazing!

Hmm Indian dinner sounds amazing. We might have to ask about it at our upcoming cruise! But I would definitely miss the naan haha.

We had an Indian head server who got use naan and chicken masala, yummmm. We didn't ask he said they would bring us out something special

I have a hobby of making costumes for fairs, Halloween and other events. During my last transatlantic cruise they offered all the passengers (except for children) a tour backstage, however it was a scheduled event with another tour group behind us so we didn't have much time to asks a bunch of questions to the various stage crew members, nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and a chance to see some of the magic that happens backstage. Immediately after the tour I ran into Natalie the Cruise Director and she asked me if I enjoyed the tour and I told her I did, however I explained to her that I would have enjoyed talking with the costume people a little longer but I understand they have a schedule to keep and they are busy people. I was surprised when Natalie asked for my stateroom number and said she will see what she could do. Later that same day I received a call from the costume team and we made an appointment to meet the next day. We spent over two hours talking about various costume designs and sharing tips and ideas. They where super nice and where very encouraging. I really appreciated that Natalie went that extra mile to fulfill my request although if she couldn't I would have completely understood. It's experiences like this that keep me coming back to Disney Cruise Line again and again.

I'm definitely going to ask about this on my next cruise! I love Indian food, but cannot cook it myself to save my life.

Not really a request but a special pixie dust moment. My husband had tourettes and walks with a cane. During our first day on board he was having a bit of trouble getting around at the Enchanted garden buffet. A woman came up to him and said "we will treat you like a king. I am in charge of disability accommodations and let me know if you need anything." We never saw her again because we didn't need her but that made my husband know Disney was the cruiseline for him.

Not the extras, but DD has gotten the special sheets on her bed on both of our cruises. I thought they were done on every cruise!

I can't speak for the Filipino food, but for the Indian food it was WAY better than most of the vegetarian options on the menu. So, the vegetarian needs were the primary driver for asking for the Indian food.

We were on the Fantasy on NYE in 2014. We are from Oklahoma, and it is a custom here (and most places in the South) to eat black-eyed peas on New Year's Day for good luck in the new year. I have eaten them on every January 1 that I can remember and even require my picky daughter to have one or two every year. We take this tradition seriously! So, when our head server stopped by our table on New Year's Eve, I asked him if there was a place on the ship that would be serving black-eyed peas the next day. The family next to us was from Alabama, and they quickly joined in our request. They said they eat collard greens, too, on New Year's Day (for riches in the new year, I think). Our head server had never heard of these customs, but he just smiled and said, "We'll make it happen."

The next night, steaming bowls of black-eyed peas and collard greens appeared on our table and the Alabama family's table. We had been at sea the whole time, so I assume they keep the kitchens stocked with every type of food anyone could possibly request. It truly was Disney magic.

I have a son with Autism who really wanted to go on the Aquaduck but can't deal with long lines, pressure to get on quickly, etc. One night we waited until it was really quiet to get ready to go on, only to discover they were closing it early that evening (I think it was for fireworks prep). Anyway, the CM asked about our situation and we explained it to him. By the time we got back to our room, there was a special invitation for us to bring him the next morning before the Aquaduck opened. It was amazing. He got time to ask lots of questions and get comfortable with their procedures, etc. and was able to ride successfully. I was so appreciative, it was great to see him enjoy it just like a typical kid :jumping1:

People at table next to us, well the DH ordered 3 of the main entree. Each night. Even the lobster might, they brought him 3 tails. All the sides too every night. He ate it all but I was like wow!!!

I'm so happy to read this. Not only because I love Indian Food, and will definitely try to remember to request some! ...but also because I'm really glad that the crew has delicious Indian food to eat. A while back, a now former CM posted on here, complaining about the food for the crew, and that she was practically starving. It made many feel bad, so much so, that people actually started ordering things off the room menu and bringing it to her. I was hoping that things were not as bleak as she had described, and again, really happy to hear about the great food!
