What is the most unusual request you've seen someone make (or made yourself) and seen happen?

Hmmm.... Wonder if I can have the Soufflé from Palo every night? That would be a dream come true for me! :tinker:

I got it! On my first cruise there were no Palo dinner reservations to be had. I mentioned that I only wanted to go to try the Soufflé. The head server showed up with Soufflés for our table for dessert.

My son and I love shrimp cocktails. We asked for them at the beginning of each meal on the Magic through the Panama Canal and got them. Years later we were on the Fantasy for 7 nights with his family and started the same routine. The second night went fine. The third night we got a small platter each of shrimp...ok, that's quite a bit. Fourth night they must have cleaned out the frig because we got a large plate with maybe two pounds of shrimp on it. Think "Sorcerer's Apprentice!" Stop, we said. They did and we have laughed about this ever since. Too much pixie dust.

There was a family on the last night of our cruise that had late dining. At our early dining (5:15) they showed up around 5:45 and demanded to be seated...and they were. The crazy thing was while the waiters were scrambling to get a table together for them their children were running all over the restaurant and hiding under tables where people were eating. o_O I'm not one to be bothered by other children. I have 3 of them the youngest being a wiggly, sassy 3 year old and I'm a former preschool teacher. But, this was crazy. They were chasing each other with swords, running into waiters, screaming at the top of their lungs. But don't worry, mom and dad never noticed.

I was in Palo once and a woman sent her steak back 5 or 6 times - "to make it right" - and then got into an argument with the Chef. :sad2: My steak was awesome - Don't know what her problem was.

and just an observation regarding the Indian Food Requests (by "everyone"): either DCL will start adding it to the regular menu and the quality will go down, OR more likely - will put a stop to it like getting items signed by the characters from Guest Services. Be careful about "abusing" this information.

It wasn't as she never went on a Disney cruise before she died, but it sounds like my grandmother. I remember one time we were at a steak place and she kept sending her steak back because it "wasn't done enough". The manager finally said they would put it back on the grill (I might say that it looked like a charcoal lump at this point) but they would no longer be responsible for the quality of it. (We all used to joke that she and my granddaddy clearly did not meet and fall in love over a steak dinner as he liked his barely warmed.)

Yesssss! I Will request this on my upcoming cruise for sure! Makes me want to order one now....here....in my car :flower1:

I agree with jrabbit about abusing the "secrets." I tried one on the last cruise (asking for the souffle from another menu) and it caused a problem. I thought it would be a "oh sure, we can do that." I'm hoping that was just an aberration. :confused3

So, you can ask your MDR server to have this brought as your appetizer in the MDR? Is there an extra charge? This would be AMAZING (I love cheese)
Our head Server purchased this appetizer for our table. He heard me talking about all the cheeses from Wisconsin. Truthfully, that was the only time we ever saw him, except for the last evening.

My different request? With the entree' I never liked the side and I would ask for mixed vegetables, I am not a potato or rice person or risotto (sp?).

Hopefully the "problem/issue" that arose from asking was an aberration...
but
Nope, Not an aberration on getting you a PALO souffle - They really won't do this "any more" - I've have asked several times of my server and of my Palo server - and the answer has always been a consistent - NO!

And truly, that IS the CORRECT answer to this request -- unless you are in concierge - then it might be honored.

For items from other MDR's they may be able to accommodate your request, but not always.

Not sure if you're talking about the chocolate souffle from Palo, or one of the other souffles from a menu served in the Main Dining Rooms, but - the 3 nights of the cruise that each dining room is serving it's "own" menu, it's generally possible to get something from one of the "other" menus served to you if you ask early in the service. That's because those items are already being prepared for their respective dining rooms.

On any other night, when all dining rooms are serving the same menu, then it's quite unlikely that you can get something from a different menu, as those items are not being prepared that night.

But, as noted, requesting the chocolate souffle from Palo in the Main Dining Rooms is a "no go". Unless, possibly, you are Concierge.

I had asked for the souffle from Royal Court and I asked as soon as we were seated.

But the question still would be - was it on one of the nights that each dining room is serving it's own menu? Or on a night that all the dining rooms are serving the same menu (like Prince & Princess, Pirate, See You Real Soon, or Captain's Gala)?

ah...excellent question. So, I might have been the one to cause a problem and our awesome waiters would not say anything to me because they are awesome Disney waiters? :(

To clarify, do they not do the pillowcase thing anymore or is it other items? this is our first cruise and I had read the pillowcase thing from previous cruisers.

You can no longer drop off any items at Guest Services for character autographs. The characters will autograph items during regular Meet & Greets (if they have the capability of holding a pen), however.

The autograph "service" was discontinued over a year ago.

Some PPs have mentioned being fellow cheese lovers and will appreciate this experience. On our big 7-nt. family cruise last summer on the Fantasy, there were 10 of us at dinner each night. The first night during the course of conversation, my husband and I mentioned to our server how much we loved ordering the cheese platter from room service. For the rest of our cruise, every night when we arrived for dinner there was a MASSIVE platter of cheeses, spreads, fruit, and crackers - enough for our entire table (and two others!) - waiting for us. It was incredible and so much cheese that even a table full of Midwesterners got sick of it after a few nights! We thanked our server profusely every night, but eventually asked him very nicely to stop bringing it since we began wasting it - it was just too much! It kept coming though. Once they start sprinkling the pixie dust, they can't seem to hold back. LOL! Just another reason why we keep coming back to DCL.

For sit down breakfasts, I ordered Muesli (yogurt with oats and fresh fruit) and was able to get it for breakfast (when ordered the night before). Delicious!!!

Muesli is actually on the standard menu for sit down breakfast. I have also found it in Cabanas.
