What is the "Key to the World" card?

I'm reading the DVC Member newsletter and it mentions this card a few times. Would someone please clue me in?

It is your plastic room key (the size of a credit card) that unlocks your room but also serves as identification for early entrance, transportation and pool use. It could also be your ticket to the park if you buy your admittance tickets at the hotel.

If you leave a credit card at check-in, you can also use it to charge purchases back to the room account.
