I love to read ... and enjoy all genres, however, I am always looking for a funny book.

I have enjoyed Forest Gump (it is NOTHING like the movie), Lamb, any David Sedaris book, Skinny Dip, and The Hitchhiker's Guide.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks a bunch!

Have you tried Celia Rivenbark?

The titles I remember now (though I have enjoyed several) are "Bless you heart, Tramp" and "Stop dressing your 6 yr old like a skank"

Think of her as a Southern Belle gone bad.

would you be interested in juvenile fiction books at all? They make for short reads.
Richard Peck has some great ones. Fair Weather comes to mind. I laughed a lot.

I love David Sedaris too! :thumbsup2

Laurie Notaro is another good author. I found one of her books ("We Thought You Would Be Prettier") on Amazon while I was getting the new Sedaris one. She is just as hilarious.

I am not a big comedy fan. I don't generally watch comedy movies or TV. I would never pick up a book that was a comedy. Many years ago I decided to read "Texasville" the sequel to "The Last Picture Show" and I remember being up at one in the morning laughing and trying to be quiet.

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore...

And that probably seals my fate of "you're not going to heaven now"...

Actually, A Dirty Job was also pretty funny.

I see you've discovered Christopher Moore -- yes, any of his books just crack me up! If you're on Facebook, you can friend him and he's always saying something funny there too (you have to look up ChristopherMoore AuthorGuy though). He did a blog on a trip to France. Just hysterical.

Have you read the Sookie Stackhouse series? It's not really laugh out loud funny, but still on the humorous side. Also, along the same genre as that, Cara Lockwood started a series, Every Demon Has His Day, which is pretty humorous.

Richard Peck IS funny, even if it is young adult fiction. I liked A Year Down Yonder. Everything that came out of the grandmother's mouth had me chuckling.

Jen Lancaster! She is hilarious! This is her first one

Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomanical, Self-Centered, Smartass, or Why You Should Never Carry a Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office

I love Janet Evanovich's number books (Stephanie Plum series). I rarely read them in public for fear of busting out laughing like a lunatic!! :lmao:You have to read them in order though.....they are WAY more hilarious if you follow the storyline!

Another vote for Laurie Notaro. Her book "Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death" was one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Awww, don't worry, you only read it; it's not like you wrote it or anything.

Although.....you did just recommend it, so you'd better walk the straight-and-narrow for a little while, at least. ;)

That book is on my "to be read" pile, so I'm glad to hear it's entertaining. I'm trudging through something now and I want a reward when this is over with!

love bill bryson. the first book of his I read was a walk in the woods and I swear there are parts I could hardly catch a breath I was laughing so hard.

I love David Sedaris, but the funniest book I've ever read is Are You There Vodka, It's Me, Chelsea. OMG - I couldn't stop laughing!

Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books make me laugh out loud.

Also, Confessions of a Failed Southern Lady by Florence King.

"Texasville" was LOL funny!

I thought "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" was hilarious, and anything else by Christopher Moore

Any of the books by Jen Lancaster are quite funny, especially if were a girl of the 80's

The one I'm looking forward to reading most right now is..

**** My Dad Says by Justin Halpern

Some I've already read and loved:

Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler
American on Purpose: The Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot by Craig Ferguson
Eating the Dinosaur by Chuck Klosterman
Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid by Denis Leary
Emails from an *******: Real People Being Stupid by John Lindsay
I Am America (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert
Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay: And Other Things I Had to Learn as a New Mom by Stefanie Wilder-Taylor (seriously, I don't even have kids, and I laughed my butt off!)

I have some more that I can't think of, I'll have to take a look at my GoodReads bookshelf and see if I can find any. I love funny books. :goodvibes

Before I opened the thread I was going to say 'Hitchiker's Guide..'

As for juvenile fiction...Louis Sachar, hands down.

.....My Dad Says should have stayed a twitter account. I don't forsee it being successful as a book or a TV show.
