What is the FUNNIEST book you have ever read?

Anything by Jen Lancaster. She makes me laugh so hard that I can't read her books in public.

I had to SEARCH for this one! I read this EONS ago and STILL laugh at it. Love Alan King!!!! :lmao::laughing:

I'll agree with "Lamb" and "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series. I'll also add "Sewer, Gas & Electric" by Matt Ruff. Oh, and "Catch-22" by Joseph Heller.

My first thought was Lamb! I'm so glad others agree. I LOVE that book. Hitchhiker's Guide is another favorite. i love Good Omens too!

One I didn't see mentioned was The Princess Bride William Goldman wrote the screenplay and the book. The book is different enough from the movie to totally make it worth reading.

For my fellow vampire book friends, try Katie MacAlister and MaryJanice Davidson. Derik's Bane is the funniest werewolf book ever.

I love anything and everything by Bill Bryson. He writes travel documentaries that are very funny and educational. Probably the most popular book he wrote is "A Walk in the Woods" about his attempt to hike the entire Appalachian Trail. My other two favorites are In a Sunburned Country (his experience touring Australia) and I'm a Stranger Here Myself (about his quest for the small town America like he experienced in his youth by travelling all around the United States). All three are funny and (basically ;) ) true :).

My favorites have already been taken.

It's been a long time, but Erma Bombeck's books alway make me LOL. Jeff Foxworthy (the "you might be a redneck" guy) has a couple that are pretty funny. I also remember laughing a lot at some of the stories in an old book by Jimmy Buffet (Tales from Margaretaville, IIRC).

If you are into semi-wierd, not-safe-for-work types, the Illuminati Trillogy (can't recall author) was definately way out there, but very funny.

One that comes to mind was written by a friend of a friend "Confessions of a Counterfeit Farmgirl" by Susan McCorkindale. (I think that's how her name is spelled).

The Stepanie Plum books always make me laugh - Lula is my favorite! :rotfl:

Jen Lancaster! She is hilarious! This is her first one

Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomanical, Self-Centered, Smartass, or Why You Should Never Carry a Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office

Another vote for Jen Lancaster, her books are hilarious. My fave is Such a Pretty Fat and her new book just came out last week.

I'd wake my SO up cracking up in bed at night reading her stuff. :thumbsup2

I love anything and everything by Bill Bryson.
You beat me to him! Ironically, I was turned on to Bryson by a Brit who was surprised I'd never heard of Bryson's work and urged me to read Notes From a Small Island about his years of living and working in the UK. I did, and I loved it! I then read his American counter-piece (I'm A Stranger Here Myself) that was an effort to explain the US to his readers back in the UK and returning to his homeland.

I'm in the middle now of reading The Life and Times of The Thunderbolt Kid about growing up in Des Moines, Iowa in the 1950's. I grew up in the 60's in Indiana and can relate to SOOO much of the book:

I also like the works of James Lileks. Particularly The Gallery of Regrettable Food and Interior Desecrations: Hideous Homes from the Horrible '70s. I gave the later to my Mom who taught Home Ec in the 70's and she had tears in her eyes while flipping through it.

If you like travel books, you might like Sex Lives of Cannibals and Getting Stoned with Savages by J. Maarten Troost. Hilarious!

Undateable by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle

I CRIED I was laughing so hard this entire book

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore...

And that probably seals my fate of "you're not going to heaven now"...

Thank you everyone ... I now have a new list! There are a lot of book out there I haven't even heard of ... can't wait to read them.

And apirateslifeforme .... thanks for your quote. :) I always hesitate to tell anyone about this book because I don't want to offend them ... however, I TRULY believe that Jesus was laughing with Christopher Moore while he wrote this book! You have to have a sense of humor with life. :rotfl:

700 Sundays by Billy Crystal...It's poignant but oh, so hillarious.

Julie and Julia by Julie Powell

Previously mentioned but worth a 2nd shout out: Janet Evanovich...by the numbers series beginning with "One for the Money". (Which, thankfully, is the least funny of the 15 books in the series)

Another vote for the Hitchikers Guide.

Elevators that see into the future.
Vogon Poetry - The second worst poetry in the universe
The worse poetry I believe was a person who went to school with Douglas Adams
Marvin and Eddie and their personalities
He thought up so many funny sci fiction scenarios

Also cried reading "Confederacy of Dunces"

Another for David Sedaris. I have only read one "When Engulfed In Flames", but it was great. :lmao: Not what I was expecting and I laughed through the whole book.

Another is Lisa Lutz and her Spellman series - The Spellman Files, Curse of the Spellman's. There are two others - "Revenge of the Spellman's" and "The Spellman's Strike Back" that I haven't read yet.

Mine is a kids' book, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I still have a copy and read it when I need a laugh or cheering up :cool1:

"I Want to Go Home" by Gordon Korman. I was literally in tears the first time I read it when I was in elementary school!

***Will insert link later. My laptop is being funky***
