We will be leaving from Buffalo. Last year it took over 18 hours to get there. If you use 95 what is the fastest and easiest route to get to 95 from Buffalo? Or any other route that is direct.

We drive to Wilmington, NC from Plattsburgh, NY and try to avoid as much of 95 as possible. :-) We travel 87 S to 90 W to 88 S to 81 s to 64(?) E to 17 E thru Warrenton, VA then hook up with 95 near Fredricksburg, VA then take a newish shortcut to 40 E into Wilmington. Mileage isn't the least but traffic is much less than 95--until you hook up with 95 S.

This. Avoid 95 until you are well south of all the major cities. We live in the Raleigh, NC area but visit upstate NY frequently. It looks strange on a map, but when driving via 81 and avoiding 95 until the Fredericksburg area, you have a predictable driving time. When you try to do 95 all the way (including all the major cities with all their major traffic issues) your drive time can be dramatically more than originally planned ...

Google Maps says through Erie/Pittsburgh and down through WV and Western NC is the fastest way.
