Hello. I am interested in trying out a DVC to see if I will like it. Is it possible to book thru Disney regular room reservations, or should I seek out a timeshare owner looking to rent? Those boards and transactions look a bit complicated to me. Any thoughts?

Either way will work and provide you with a feel for the resort. My first stay was through Disney. But you can get some really good deals by using the rent/trade boards her on the Dis and renting through an owner.

I think I may rent from an owner next year, to try them out. From what I understand, you can post where/when you want to stay, and hopefully someone will contact you with the necessary pts. There is some trust involved, as you have to send them a chack and hope they make the ressies for you, but seems to work pretty well from what I can tell.

Dusted - for the same price of a studio with Disney you can rent at least a 1-bedroom with a DVC member.

just decide which resort and when - then go LOOK first. you might find a deal. If you don't find anything then post.

I mean if you want BCV this Oct - but can find OKW but on sale for $8 a point - I would go with OKW.

remember that reservations between now and the end of the year are just about gone. try to find someone (if you can) with a reservation.

Note that renting from Disney will be *much* easier. Also, if you are coming for a weekend, the difference in costs between renting from a member and renting from Disney isn't so great. However, if you are coming on weekday-nights, it will be a lot cheaper to go through a member.

Watch out renting can get you hooked, I did and now own.

byoung- we'll be there about the same time! We are staying at AKL 10/15-19. Flying out of Philly...

Easiest way - call Disney and book a villa.

Cheapest way for same type room - go to the rent trade board and rent from one of the friendly members.

End result - WELCOME HOME!!!

If you decide to post a request thread on the R/T board, be sure you read all the posting rules first. The R/T board is a fully moderated board where threads first go to a Moderator's queue for review before they show on the board. Any thread which does not meet posting requirements is not validated and does not appear on the board.

It will take up to 24 hours from when you submit a posting for validation to when it may finally post on the board itself.
