If I want to rent about Details Removed points, what is the easiest way to do it? I have seen dvcbyrequest.com and they offer $10/point. Is this pretty much standard? I have seen some people book reservations and then list them on ebay, but that seems difficult to predict. I would appreciate hearing about other's experiences.

Disney does not recommend renting points every year.

That being said I have rented out points twice and used the rent board

The problem is you must post ALL the time on the boards now to even post a rental on that thread. Very poor decision in my opinion.

I was denied recently even though I am on the boards all the time. I just don't post a lot.

Nevermind......I found my answer : ) sorry

For renting points you can eiter do it on your wn or use one of he services that rent points. I have rented points in past and have not had any problems.

To be honest, if you have the option, I don't think I would buy that many more points if I could help it as you never know how things will work out.

If you already own them and are now finding that you just don't need to use them, then I might suggest offering them as a transfer to another member.

This way, they are gone and you are done with them. With a rental, you have to be involved a bit more as the reservation remains under your name.

Using David's service is certainly an option but depending on the resort you own, it may or may not be easy for him to find you a renter as well.

We have never done it so I am only speaking from what I have read on the boards.

I agree on the poor decision that you have to post in order to rent points ont he R/T board. I see their reason, by posting you keep the number of people at the site up whcih draws advertisement which is money/profit to keep the site active.

We have rented on the Disboards since 2004. We post often and before the new rules. We follow the board to keep up on things. The new rules IMO will help renting and is looks like at at higher price.

I noticed that the points on the rental board seem higher too! I was also denied to post as I read more often than I post and have been off board for a bit. Oh well.

I am so glad I read this thread.
We own DVC and have a cruise booked (two connecting balcony cabins on the Dream).
I went on the Rent/Trade board, points were higher than $10 and there wasn't too much to choose from.
I liked it the old way better when there was more to choose from.
I have rented on the dis and I have also rented out my points on the dis and had wonderful outcomes for both.
I may use David's if there are slim pickins on the dis or tug but think I will book air when we know we are going but wait closer to the date to try to find a deal. I don't think I'll be "locked out" of DVC.

The OP got me thinking... has anyone ever posted a listing on Craigslist with success? I understand that Craigslist is big in my area (DC Metro) and may not be other places, but just curious. I guess it all boils down to the trust factor between parties no matter how you rent.
Although, does it make anyone else sad to think there may be dishonest people out there who love the Mouse? :(

I don't know about cragslist, but people list dvc reservations on Ebay.

Friends just rented out some of their points through DVCbyrequest. She told me if she ever had extra points again she would do it again in a heart beat. She doesn't have the time or the energy to try renting them out on her own plus they were distressed points (they were expiring in four months).

I think most feel the same way as you do. Most of the renting activity - as far as I can see, but I think it's pretty obvious - has moved on to other boards on the web.

I wonder if the restriction has added or removed eyeballs to this website.

I suspect the latter.

It's really too bad IMO.

I no it may be harder to post on the rental board now than before. I speak as someone that has loved the Dis and been a daily lurker for a few years only posting once in awhile.I have only rented points once this past year for a large family cruise I am going on.I saw that I could do so much better renting points and paying cash for the cruise. This was before the new rules were in place.
I may not rent points again but I will try to post a little more often just in case I do.It really doesn't take that much if you do it a couple times a week. I don't even really no the amount of postings required to post on the rental board?
As an owner it will make it easier to rent at a higher price. $11.00 or 12.00 per point. They have been $10.00 a pt forever and our maintenance fees have gone up and so have the rack room rates. So less rentals will help owners to rent their pts at a better price,
I just wanted to show that there is a positive side to the new posting rule too.:cloud9:

I just tried to post points on rent/trade and think I will probably get rejected. I've been a member on here for years but have only regularly posted the last 4 or 5 months. I would be interested to know what other sites people have been posting rental points on. Davids site wants to pay half at reservation and half at check-in- which I understand but I'm not selling points because I want to wait around for the money kwim?

It is fairly easy to rent points. All you need is a notebook, email, and some time during the day to check availability.

Since the OP's original question has been answered, and this thread has morphed into general comments on the Rent/Trade Board policies, it is now closed.

Feel free to visit This thread if you wish to discuss the Rent/Trade Board posting policy. We are limiting discussion of it to that particular thread. Thanks all!
