Does anyone know what the best route to get to Fort Wilderness is. We will be pulling a travel trailer and my family is following us in a large motorhome. Is it better to take the turnpike 429 or to take Interstate 4? What routes do ya'll take when coming to the Fort? Thanks in advance!!:goodvibes

Are you coming from the north down I-95, or more from the west like from Alabama or west Georgia, or coming up from Miami or something similar?

OK, we come down I-95 so I'm not much help here.

There are several folks here from Alabama and Louisiana who I know can help you out. Just keep checking back and I know they'll chime in.:thumbsup2

We also come from Texas, We turn off of I 10 past Tallahasse on 19/27 which is 4 lanes to Ocalla. We then take I 75 to the Florida Turnpike to 429 and on into WDW. We used to go to I 4 but it is very busy and 429 is a new Tollroad.
Some people take I 10 all the way to I 75 and then south. We just prefer Alt 27 to Ocalla.

Yes, you can take Western Way in and then just follow the signs like you're going to the MK. At the MK parking lot troll booths stay to the right (the furthest one right with a green light), show them your reservation papers and they will direct you to FW (no charge). You'll find the traffic on 429 and Western Way is very light. There is only one toll booth on 429 and it is a fairly low toll if I remember.

429 western way is a great ride. We took it this past Oct. and it was the mose peaceful part of our whole trip. Highly recommend it.

If you decide to take 429...watch your speed. DW got ticketed for 80 in a 65.....she also ticketed me, in the passenger seat, for not wearing a seat-belt. Its I-4 for us from now on.

yes, take 429. In the past we took 27, but 429 cut about 30 minutes off the trip and is a much better road. After you get on 429 their is one toll plaza between turnpike and disney exit. Disney exit is exit # 8. There is a point along the road, on the top of a hill, where you can look to the left see some of the disney buildings, like contemporary, tower of terror, swan or dolphin and I think even the castle.

I've heard of several people getting tickets on Western Way......I believe it drops down to 55 once you get closer to Disney. Be on the lookout for the posted speed signs.

we have been on 429 atleast 8 times since it opened and have not gotten any tickets much less saw any patrol officers...But everyone is suppose to drive the speed limit right. ;)

Yes to 429 and Western Way. Easy, traffic is light, and scenic. Speed limit at one point is 35 mph near CS. I always want to hurry because we are so close to Disney! There's very little traffic and 35, even 45, seems really slow. I think it's safer and less stressful than I-4...

I've never seen any law enforcement on 429, but on Western Way, YES!! It does drop down to 35 and many have reported that it is a HUGE speed trap.

Where does 429 come out on property. We are going in June and we want our DD4 to see the entrance. Will she be aware we are entering WDW from the Western Way?
