We are looking at going next Christmas so this post was of great interest to me. As such, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about AP's. Only one person in the party needs an AP to obtain a resort discount if they are offered. They are available in advance but if your desire is to get a discounted rate, then you must wait to find out if they will be offered during the time you want to travel.
Also, many people have commented that AP's are more cost effective if you are staying a certain length of time or if you plan to return within the year. In our situation, that doesn't necessarily hold true. We are booked at the Poly next Christmas in a standard room for $469 rack rate (Holiday rates). If AP discounts similar to this year come out, the rate could drop to $189 standard view. The savings from ONE night alone would make up the difference in cost between buying a PHP pass or an AP. A one week stay could result in a cost savings of $1960. That's a lot of dough!! I won't buy an AP til I find out for sure if there will be a discount, but that option is definitely floating around my brain, lol.
For those going this Christmas, please be sure to come back and report on the crowds, if any parks closed Christmas eve, day or any other timeframe, and please share your Christmas dinner suggestions. Thanks and have a great trip!!
