We are headed to DL in May 2008 and haven't decided yet on our hotel. I've looked into a few but haven't decided yet. There is only a few qualifications that the hotels needs: Has to be Good Neighbor Hotel, we would love a nice pool, HAS to be a short walking distance to DL and we would love for the room to have a mirco and fridge. Pleae help with any recommendations!

Best Western Park Place Inn and Suites worked for us one trip. We'll be staying at the Farfield in December for something different.:thumbsup2

Without hesitation I can recommend HoJo's! It will meet all of your needs and then some. You need to request the room with the fridge and microwave, it will be no problem since you're planning far in advance. Also if you're not doing it as part of a package, call the hotel directly and ask for in-house reservations, when you reach them, inquire about the entertainment rate, it will save you some $$!:thumbsup2

My vote goes for the Tropicana. We were there in July and it was great. Good rooms, nice pool area with a huge hot tub, free continental b-fast (not the best but it was still good) and really close to the parks. About a 5 minute walk from the hotel to the hub between parks!! We are staying there again actually....from the 25th-28th of October. Oh ya, you could see the fireworks really well from the 3rd floor!!

I talked to a few friends who say that HoJo is really bad. Anyone else has this experience??

My vote is also the Tropicana. Really nice pool and hot tub. Can't beat the location. Clean rooms, free breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay in June there.

BTW Tropicana also has free parking!!!!!!!! Many other hotels do charge for that so be sure when you are booking to check for that.

I've heard wonderful things about the Candy Cane Inn but I'm not sure about the fridge or microwave.

We are staying at the Desert Inn and Suites in 2 months (:cool1: ) and they have suites (which I think is a must if you have kids) and are getting a fridge and microwave.

Tropicana also has a small fridge and microwave....LOL Sorry, I keep seeing things I should add......LOL

we had a wonderful experience at HoJo's. i wasn't sure if they had a micro in our room when we were there, but we did have a fridge.

candy cane looks like one of the closest hotels (from the shuttle ride we were on) to DCA that is on the same side of the street as the parks. they also have their own shuttle to the park and i have only read good things about them.

The Candy Cane Inn is about a 10 minute relaxed walk to the security check point. The rooms have refrigerators, but not microwaves. There is a microwave in the lobby restaurant, which we used several times when we were there (mostly to warm milk for our youngest). Overall we were pleased with the CCI. It has nice landscaping, friendly service, and a decent pool and jacuzzi.

Keep in mind that almost all of the lower priced good neighbor hotels are really motels. But for a motel, the CCI was very nice.

OP: For what you stated you want, the Tropicana is the best choice.

But keep in mind the prices and deals you can get fluctuate. Sometimes, there will be a deal at one of the hotels over there you just cannot pass up. And IMO, none of the hotels across the street on harbor are worth a ton more than another.

I'm booked into the Park Vue Inn for March, it's got a fridge and a microwave, is very close to DL. The pool looks ok, but because of when we're going I didn't look into it too much.:confused3
I picked it because i was really cheap and really close. We're only going to be sleeping there so I'm not too concerned about much else. From the reviews most people say it's pretty clean, so I'm happy with that.:thumbsup2

We stayed in HoJo last Oct, going back this Oct.
Very large room, fridge, free internet access, clean, next door to Mimis which we love(mmm liver and onions!!) only few minutes walk to Disney. Paid about $75/night incl tax.
we always use Alpharooms.com based near me here in UK, usually a lot better prices than direct with HoJo.

Not at all! We were there in August! It was gorgeous! DH thought I was nuts to book a HoJo - him a business traveller pro! But he LOVED it!!!! I just wished they had a cont. breakfast!:thumbsup2

Hojo's is NOT bad. My goodness.

We've stayed there every year for the past five years and have had nothing but excellent experiences. Clean, beautiful grounds and pools, a great gift/sundry shop, professional staff, a walk to the resort that is more than doable (my 4 yr old at the time had no problem on our first trip)...we CHOOSE to stay there every year. Maybe your friends just had an off time or something. We've always been more than satisfied. Give it a try. :)

How far is Candy Cane from DL??

CCI is half a mile from DL as is HoJos both are very popular here. Personally I would stay at either Tropicanna, Carousel Inn or BWPPI as they are the closest and also very popular here. Hojos has some good rates, good pools, nice gardens but no free breakfast and no microwaves. CCI is the most expensive, rooms are small, pool is small, free breakfast, free shuttle and no microwave. BWPPI and Carousel have good sized rooms, small pools, free breakfast, microwave. Tropicanna has good pool area, average free breakfast, microwave, slightly smaller rooms.

Park Vue Inn gets mixed reviews, but very close also, good pool can't help with the rest.
