Anyone else not into the dinner shows on new ships?

I love the new ships but I really miss the quieter, more relaxed vibe in the dining rooms on the older ships. We really didn't care for Arendelle on the Wish. It felt loud and chaotic to us. We are just not dinner show people I guess. My husband and I want to try the new Destiny this winter. The overall ship and adult only spaces look amazing. But 1923 is the only restaurant that I'm excited about.

Since you don't know your dining rotation until you board, I'm not sure how to plan for Palo for the other nights. The reservations may be gone by the time we board. And is there any way to request 1923 twice if we go on a 4 or 5 night cruise?

Thanks for any suggestions!

I don't like the constant noise at dinner, either. Even on the Magic, I was ready for the peaceful Lumeiers after the loud Animator's and the excessively loud Tangled themed restaurant. My server and I couldn't hear each other.

I really did not like Arendelle, I found it SO noisy. However Rapunzel’s and Tiana’s were fine for me - they were noisy but nowhere as bad as Arendelle.

You (or your travel agent, if you used one) can call and make a request. It may not be granted, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

If you book Palo now and want to change once you are onboard and know your dining rotation, you can do that too. If you don't want to wait in the Dining Changes line on boarding day, just stop by the Palo desk at some point and inquire.

DH and I are Disney Lite. We love DCL. The service, the ships decor and the vibe. I love the adult areas, but would rather see little kids running around in princess dresses etc. then drunk adults, loud music blaring and casinos. And I gamble, but not on my cruise vacation.

With that being said, we prefer themed dining rooms, without the stage shows. Animators is fine, the rest is a bit much for us, but we muddle thru because that is what comes with crusing DCL.

We are also DVC Members love the resorts, still do the parks. But, stay at HHI, VB and find ourselves taking more resort only WDW trips.

Do you skip any of the dining rooms? If so - what do you do?

I SOOOO badly wish they still have the buffet open during dinner like they used to. It wasn't a buffet - but it was a nice, quiet, casual dinner and we LOVED it! We would do it at least once every cruise. I really miss that. Now the only options are room service, which I have no interest in for dinner, or paying an upcharge for an upscale adult only dinner. Nothing middle of the road if you just don't feel like going to the dining room.

We have never skipped a main DR unless we are going to Palo or Remy.

We just hope we are stuck in the corner away from the action. LOL. On our last cruise one night our table ways right by the restaurant's enrance for Frozen show. We were thrilled. LOL...but when the show started Elisa was standing right by my DH and he was chatting with her!!

It's not that we hate the shows, but been there done that. Once we have seen and enjoyed them one or two times, we are just not interested anymore. Our sons are all grown. When they were younger, only Animators had any interaction.

I am doing my first solo cruise in 3 weeks and I am finally a Platinmum member. I am sailing on the Dream and have no plans on going to the main DR. I have Palo and Remy booked. I figured the other nights I will eat on the pool deck or get room service.

I love them (Tangled is my favorite overall restaurant). I'm looking forward to trying Coco next month

I'm not a super big fan of the shows. I like some aspects, but I hate that it's so chaotic and loud and servers are still trying to take orders when it starts. I couldn't really follow along what was happening in the Marvel show or either of the Coco shows on Treasure. In all cases, our servers were still taking our orders when the show started, and we were having to shout to be heard and also missing whatever was going on up onstage. At some point at the end of one of the Coco shows they had us all waving around our napkins and singing along, and that part was really fun (other than my DH pointing out how now everyone's napkin crumbs were being flung every which way through the room).

I didn't mind the 2nd Marvel show as much - it was more like Marvel trivia on screen and you could play along or not. It was actually a fun way to pass the time. I also did really enjoy the Rapunzel show when we were on Magic ... it felt less chaotic and more about the music (I guess maybe I missed whatever story line I was supposed to be following there too?).

We do like the MDR food though, and I'm glad I've "seen" the shows. I think I'd still go even if it was a repeat show for me, because of lack of other options (we're not too interested in Palo/Remy, we eat late and things close on the pool deck so early, and the room service menu being pretty limited).
