HI just bought hte WDW 2004..book by Birnbaum's..just hoping i got the best one..out there..thanx everyone!

Birnbaum's is a great book for WDW newbies. The color photos and descriptions of the attractions are great. If this is your first visit to WDW, you've made a good choice.

For WDW veterans, I like Bob Sehlinger's Unofficial Guide to WDW and Watson & Marx's Passporter to WDW Resort. Both get into the details a little more. The Unofficial guide is also a lot better at describing Orlando beyond the mouse's gates.

I second the Unofficial Guide-wish I had gotten it first before spending more on other books!

alison:rolleyes:

I have to agree with mad, Birnbaums is great for newer Disney visitors. My favorite if the UG. I just laugh out loud when I read that thing, but it is very thick and can be somewhat cynical (sp?) about some things. If I had read the UG before I ever went I would have had a harder time just feeling the magic and enjoying myself. Read the UG after you have been a few times and the criticsms seem funny. I have not read Passporter but may buy one before my next trip down....Lacee

We have read all 3. They are great for the reasons stated above. We gave the Birnbaum book to the family who will be joining us, as they have never been before, and enjoyed seeing the pictures. As we have been before, we enjoy the Unofficial Guide. I also love the Passporter as I love to be organized! :)

I recently bought Frommer's WDW & Orlando 2003 guide for $3 at a Book Warehouse clearance sale. I think I overpaid :p

This is our 5th or 6th trip, so we don't consider ourselves newbies at all, but I think I literally only learned 3 new things in this whole book - 350+ pages! Stick with UG!

I love my passporter. I like how I can write down all of my info on the pages in the back.

Birnbaum is the best. I also like Passporter, last vacation I took both with me but got far more use out of Birnbaum.

Unofficial Guide & Passporter.

They both have the same info & a LOT more than Birnbaums.
Birnbaums is good for kids because of the color pictures.

I use both UG & Passporter together, keeping my "final" notes in the Passporter.

I love te UG and the Passporter.... I also bought the WDW with kids book.. I just love to read... can you tell?

I LOVE the Unofficial Guide!! I've never read any of the others, so I can't comment on those.

<FONT COLOR=RED> Another vote for the Unofficial Guide and Passporter. I have read both from cover to cover.

The UG gave us great tips for all phases of planning and the Passporter is going with us on the trip.

The Passporter is also great to use to have a journal for your trip. :D

I have read Birnbaum's Walt Disney World, Birnbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids by Kids, Walt Disney World for Dummies, Frommer's Florida, Monaghan's Universal Orlando(only book I could find for Universal), and I am currently reading Cara Goldsbury Luxury Guide to Walt Disney World. I liked the Birnbaum, it had alot of information and pictures to identify what they were talking about. The Luxury guide has narrowed the information down to the high end of the world. After I am done with it I will give the Unofficial guide a shot. Knowledge is power.

are also for UG and Passporter.

The UG is the Disney "Bible" in my opinion. I recommend it to everyone who has never been. I don't think it's as cynical as much as I think TRUE. (maybe I'm a tad jaded)...I appreciated the realism of this guide, because while I LOVE the "magic", I also like to "be prepared"...

The Passporter is a great organizational tool. For a newbie, it is a great place to keep things, and in which to write things down.

Both are great for different reason! :bounce:

Another vote for The Unofficial Guide to WDW. I'm so addicted to that book just as I'm addicted to reading these boards!!!

I have bought & used several books (some geared toward couples) - all were helpful. My favorites are the Passporter (great & useful guide!), WDW for couples by Rick & Gayle Perlmutter (very upbeat take on things! gets you so excited about your upcoming visit!), The Luxury Guide to WDW (very good information), & Birnbaum's WDW Without Kids 2004 (last year's was called "For Couples").

UG is the best. Gives positives and the negatives. Some people feel it can be too negative at times, but I think it just prepares you better for what to expect. It was pretty accurate for our trip in Sept. 2002.
