Hi...I'm new to these boards and I'm trying to learn the tips and tricks of a DW vacation. I keep seeing folks mention they booked their vacation using an AP discount. Can someone tell me what that is and how they got it to book their resort/vacation?

Thanks in advance...

AP stands from Annual Pass. AP holders occasionally get offered different discounts than those of the general public, usually a bit better.

We purchased an AP pass for our May 2008 vacation, specifically for a discounted room rate. AP passholders received 40%off rooms at AKL when we stayed in May. The general public discount was 20% off rooms at the same time.

We did the math and figured the cost between one person purchasing an Annual Pass vs 6day hopper tickets and then the resort savings. Back then you could also book 3 rooms with one AP, so the resort savings for us was enormous.

For our July 2010 trip, the general public discount for the Poly was 40%, so we did not need to purchase an AP to get a large room discount.

Our next trip Aug 2012, we will be looking to by an AP once the discounts are published to see what works better for our family. Mousesavers.com publishes the general public discounts and the AP discounts when WDW releases them. AP discounts for rooms are not guaranteed and are sometimes published a few months out. I normally book my room and then either add the general public discount or AP discount when they are available. I am also looking into becoming an AAA member as they can have good room discounts too.

ahhhh ok...thanks for explaining it. It's definitely something worth keeping an eye on. Appreciate the feedback! :flower3:

general consensus: if you plan on doing more than 10 days in a 12 month period, the AP is break even on cost of tickets. where you get the better bang for the buck is the AP discounts( and yes you can still purchase the DP if that's for you) on rooms and merchandise.

and my personal fav.. the Tables in Wonderland card.. 20% off EVERYTHING including booze at participating locations.. most TS restaurants( including 2 credit ones) & a few CS locations

depending on your family's eating habits, TiW can often be a significant savings over the dining plan(s). ONE meal at Victoria and Albert's and it's paid for itself.

For my reservation in 3 weeks at the Boardwalk Inn I reserved it with the Annual Pass discount this past August and got 40% off the rack rate.

Discounts may vary slightly, but usually an AP discount will get you 40% off deluxes and 35% off moderates. A few years ago an AP discount was like 45% off deluxes. I know several years ago we saved more on our WL room than what the AP cost and only one adult in the room has to have an AP to take advantage of it.
