What is TACKY???

I don't think any of us are trying to offend, so let's keep the thread in the spirit it was intended. I do not mean to question the lives or lifestyles of anyone displaying something mentioned on this thread and apologize if it was taken that way.

I'm sure all of us do or have something considered tacky by someone else.

For the record, though, my problem with the Darwin fish is that it is a parody of the Jesus fish and therefore making fun of others' beliefs. I think it is just as tacky to have the "truth" fish eating a Darwin fish for the same reason.

Just a question...
Is a "Darwin Fish" really a fish since it's sporting those leg/feet things?;)
So far I think I have avoided most of the "tacky" things, though one may argue about my rudeness. :teeth:

I also drive an SUV a 4 door explorer but it is smaller than my friends mini-van!! And on the subjects of mini-vans.... When you are going down the highway doing 70-75 (when the speed limit is 65) and you have a mini van with a hundred kids in it:p blow you doors off like they are driving in the Indy 500 and then flip you the bird on the way by!!My son is not an honor student yet (he is going in to first grade) But if he ever becomes one I will be proud to display that sticker! That is just another way of showing him how proud we are of him!

Last Christmas one of my co-workers asked the President of the company(who daily strolls thru the sales office) if we were getting our usual Christmas $$bonus this year. She then went on and on about having to buy a new mattresss because her mother was coming for a visit...it was the tackiest thing I ever heard.

My problem in general with cute little threads like this (and I broke my own rule by posting to it, shame on me) is that some will take the post out of the satirical context in which it was intended. Life is not always a debate. It's sometimes light-hearted. Sigh.....

As for Miss Jasmine's question, a good one that interested me, check this site out. More info than you ever wanted to know!

Speaking of bumper stickers, I think the obscene ones are tacky such as;

If you don't like my driving, dial 1-800 eat ****

and

If it smells like fish, eat it

 :o

1. Girls/women of ANY age wearing low-riding jeans with their thongs riding high up their backs. I believe it's called underwear for a reason.

2. Wearing a trucker hat if you're NOT a trucker. (See below)

3. People who live in the city and drive Hummers or any other unnecessarily large vehicles for no other reason than to make themselves seem like they're "bling bling".

Unfortunately there are things we all do that others think are tacky. I love multicolored Christmas lights - don't think they're tacky at all. I have honor students but think the bumper stickers are tacky - wow, I agree with gg on something! I hate the satirical fish logos. Every post on here could be considered an insult I guess!

Pat Elliott, I understand the spirit in which this thread was intended. :) I actually enjoy threads like these, the type of thread that gives everyone a chance to reply - we always get such a wide range of responses! Interesting to read, and they give one a good insight to the various personalities on the boards.

I'm not the slightest bit offended that someone doesn't like my hoop earrings or my SUV. :p I'm not even offended that GG thinks its tacky for me to have an honor roll bumper sticker on my car. While I find it a tad unsettling that there is someone out there who actually LIKES the "My kid beat up your honor roll student" bumper stickers, I'm not even offended by that. :)

Different strokes and all...... :)

I've never head the term "trucker hat" before. I grew up with a lot of guys who wore CAT diesel baseball caps. Is that the same thing?

It did look pretty silly in that picture, though!

Yep, same hats -- they're now "in"

People who wear ball caps at the dinner table.

People who wear sneakers with dress clothing. See Phil Collins:p

Ok, I'll calm down and try not to take things personal :D
It just gets old day in/out having to defend your own right to drive/ believe/ think what you want, so I tend to get offensive about it sometimes. I'm sorry.

I didn't see a Jimmy Buffett fish on that website! They had almost every other kind though! I think it would have to have a hawaiian shirt on, and holding a margarita! It is a cute site, thanks for posting it, Pat.

Goofygirl, unless you are a masochist, just don't read these stickers that obviously make you sooooooooooo mad

But aren't they there to be read? Isnt that the point of them?

Aw come on. Don't you find that even a LITTLE funny? I do! :)

I've seen some that say My Child is on the Honor system at State Pen or similar messages!

I've seen a Proud parent of a D Student bumper sticker!

I have to agree witht he "comb-overs". That is tacky! Do they realize how bad it really looks?
