What is "staying on cash"

We are brand new DVC members. I have been reading this forum and see people say they are "staying on cash", one person said "for the weekends" like that was maybe a better deal. So I was just wondering what "staying on cash" was.

Many DVC members "pay" for their reservations using points for Sunday - Thursday nights and then "stay on cash" on weekends to avoid the higher points needed. Member Services will make "cash" reservations at DVC resorts for DVC members and link the entire reservation together (points and cash) so we don't have to change rooms. At times, the cash reservation will even get the 25% DVC discount- otherwise it is reserved at rack rate for that room.

Some members may also change resorts on weekends and stay at other WDW resorts or even off-site. "Staying on cash" simply means that a cash reservation (vs a point reservation) is being used for some parts of the stay.
