What is Photopass?

Can someone tell me what Photopass is, how it works, and how much it costs? I vaguely have an idea what it is, but not really! :sunny:

Its what the photos system at WDW is called. If you get photos taken by the Disney Photographers they will give you a Photopass card and swipe it each time you get yoru photos taken.

Then you can buy your photos online from the comfort of your home with the Photopass number on the back of the Photopass card. You no longer have to buy them before you leave the parks.

Also very new is the Photopass CD. This is $99 and fits up to 300 photos. Then you can have them printed any where you want to any size you want them. BUT they no longer will do enhancements to the Photopass CD photos.

I have never had enough photos taken for the CD to be worth it for us. We usually buy a couple at $12.95 each.

So....each time you get your picture taken, they give you a new card? I assume this happens all over each of the parks. How much are the pictures if you only want to buy a few?

NO! The very first time you have a photo taken by a CM they will give you a photopass card. You will give that to each and every CM after that when you get your pictures taken. They scan a bar code on that photopass card.
My advice would be to LOAD UP THE CARD. Have your picture taken EVERYWHERE and numerous poses. YUP, if it is an entire family, have the kids in a photo, the adults in a photo, then an entire family photo, one kid, many kids all in different laughing, silly positions in front of every ride, coaster, "kodak" spot that you see a CM. The CD is a fabulous way to get photos of your visit to the world. Each night (if you bring a laptop) you can see the photos taken that day. You just log into your photopass acct. (data is on the back of the card) and view the pictures that the CM's took that day. The CD is $99.00. You will get 300 pictures. Now do the MATH...if you like many and opt to buy them on the PhotoPass site for $12.75 a piece that adds up quickly or you can purchase the CD and there is a RELEASE in the jewel box and take that to any CVS, BROOKS, Wal-Mart etc and have the pictures ALL DONE UP for pennies. Also the Photopass WebSite ONLY does 5x7. If you opt with the CD and go to any drug-store, photo shop you can get ANY size you want.
This does not include souvenir photos from WITHIN a ride. Just the ones the CM takes OUTSIDE of all the rides. You will have that card with you 24/7 and LOAD IT UP at each and every PARK you visit.
At the end of your stay you go to Mickey's TOON TOWN or EPCOT or the GF and they will make you your very own CD with ALL the photos along with that release.
:thumbsup2

OOOHHHHHH......now I get it! That sounds great, considering I take most of the pictures and am hardly in ANY! thanks so much for the info!

I got our's burned at DTD in the World of Memories store. It was the best $99 I spent on pictures! :thumbsup2

 My turn...so there are spots that the CMs are at, waiting for someone to come by to have their picture taken? If so, how are the lines? Do you have to wait long? This does sound like a wonderful idea! TIA

Also they are with most of the Characters, so you can get good photos with characters adult or children,

Ok, my trip is next fall and I think I'm gonna try this photopass thing. On our trip last year my SIL had the photopass and I think she had less than 20 pictures on it. She didn't do the CD, obviously. But let me see if I got this right. If I put 300 pics on it and buy the CD it would be $99, then I could take it down to Walmart and print out any size I want (so if I ended up with all 4x6 at 24 cents a piece, than that would be an extra $72) Does it really seem worth it to get 300 pics for $171? Maybe it just seems so much since I never develop that many at once. What do you think?

My DS came home from WDW and uploaded the disc to Snapfish.com through Wal-Greens and at the "picked up" price is $0.19each. I believe if you ordered them through Snapfish and select mail-order option they are even cheaper than $0.19 (I think $0.12each)!!! Not bad!!! This way you have an option to have the entire family in group photos with scenery of the WORLD in the background. And remember not just coasters and attractions, it is to be used as well at all the Character Greetings in all the Parks. I really think it is a decision you have to make re: buying the CD.

The photos that are taken on Splash Mountain and RNRC can they be put on the Photopass or do you by them at the ride.

NO...any pictures taken on a ride can only be purchased at the end of the ride in their gift shop!

These are only the photos taken outside at all the attractions. My DH and I had a great photo taken RIGHT OUT FRONT OF RNRC (in front of the huge guitar) ON THE PHOTOPASS but not the photo inside during the ride itself. :goodvibes

The great thing about digital pictures is that you don't have to print every picture. You pick and choose.

It's not like a roll of film. When you take film to be developed, you have to pay to get a print of each negative.

But with digital photos, you can see each photo on the computer screen and decide which to print and which not to.

PhotoPass photographers are at least going to be within sight of each park's central icon (Castle, Spaceship Earth, Tree of Life, big stupid hat). But they'll also be sprinled throughout the parks. It's really a matter of luck seeing them. There are no set spots where they have to be. I found one at the exit of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I found another near Mission:Space.

PLEASE don't try to use PhotoPass as a REPLACEMENT for your own camera. I read one post where someone returned from their trip feeling ripped off and p'd off because she didn't bring a camera on her trip because she thought a PhotoPass photographer would be at arm's reach at any and every moment; since that was her expectation, she was disappointed.

There's no charge for having photos taken, or anything like that, so get as many taken as you can! And by the way, as someone said, the first time you get a photo taken, the photographer will give you a PhotoPass card to give to subsequent photographers and to access the website with from home. If you leave the card in your other fanny pack :rotfl: one day, no worries, just get another. When you access the website (or when you order the CD at WDW) you will have the opportunity to "merge" the cards. We had 4 different Photopass cards by the end of our trip. Hey, we were on vacation, we weren't as organized as usual, okay??!!
