I joined a talent agency a while back and I have my very first audition for a commercial today! I got the e-mail from my agent and it says dress 'nice casual' and I'm not 100% sure what exactly nice casual means for a 20 year old?

I'm planning to wear black pants but I'm not sure about the top, I could either got with a nice top & a sweater(/cardigan) or more of a blazer type thing. I feel like I look ridiculous in a blazer because I look like a little girl trying to wear her moms clothes or something IMO  But I do have a blazer that I could wear if that's what would be more appropriate for 'nice casual'.

So if any of you guys could help me out I'd really appreciate it!! Also if anyone has done an audition before any advice would be great as this is my first one and I'm not entirely sure how it works. hehe

what's the product? has the company had previous commercials? what did people wear in those commercials if so? what kind of things does the product represent?

answering those might help a bit.

good luck!

not sure if it is too late to respond but I don't think you need to wear the blazer (to me that would be more like business casual)

I vote sweater/cardigan

Good luck!!:cheer2:

I agree!

Good luck!!! Keep us posted. :thumbsup2

I'm guessing they'll just have you read. Do you have an acting coach? Mydd13's voice coach doubles as her acting coach, and if she's given lines for an audition, will work with her. Edited to add, she also tells her what to wear (and frequently gives her her own clothes - she's very petite). How about some nice designer jeans, and a trendy top? A sweater dress over black tights or jeans and high black boots?

No blazer. Knowing the role would be helpful. Nice, dark, dressier jeans may even be ok.

You need to be slightly generic but still look right for the roll.

First of all Good Luck!! :goodvibes

I have to laugh at your idea of a blazer. I have a bunch, but they aren't those boxy suit jacket type things and they are just called jackets. They are fitted, short and feminine, so one of those with a cute blouse and black pants or dark jeans, and boots to me would be nice casual.
I think the pp is on to something. I think how you dress would depend on the product/service that the commercial is for.

My dd also just joined a talent agency and has been on several auditions/jobs. Nice casual means a dress shirt/dressy top and nice slacks. I wouldn't wear jeans or a t-shirt, unless it's a polo. I'd go with the nice top and cardigan.

Make sure that you're "on" ie outgoing, friendly, smiling, not mumbling or shy, when you're in front of the casting people. Take your head shots. Practise saying your name and agency. Good luck :thumbsup2

I'd go with the balc pants and nice sweater.
A blazer will look too "businessy".

I would think a nice pants suit or docker type slacks and a nice sweater. I would not wear jeans, whether they were nice ones or not but that is just me!;)

....she needs to look 'OLD'??!?! .....ohhhhh, wait a minute, I thought you said 'geriatric'........mahhhh baaaaad......

Thanks so much for your input everyone!! I thought a blazer was too much too but my mom thought it'd be appropriate hehe.

My audition is at 4 so I have some time to pick the right outfit, but as of right now I think I'm going to wear black jeans and try and find my nicest most appropriate top and wear it with a black cardigan I think, with black boots (not uggs, but like, nice leather type boots)

The commercial is for some online immigration thing I think  I'm not 100% sure what kind of look they're going for, but I assume if they contact a 20 year old about it that means they don't want me to show up looking like a 30+ year old :confused3 Eek! I'm really nervous/excited!! Thanks so much for all the advice guys! I'll let you know how it goes when I get back! :goodvibes

Good Luck!! DD13 wore nice black pants and a cute top when she had auditions.
