What is it with the Florida critters?

First, I had the Palmeto bug (big roach) down my back. Then there was the snake by my front entry and the scorpion in my bathroom. Today, I was helping my sister straighten a tree that was loose due to the hurricane. All of a sudden my sister let out a yelp. I look over and she has ants all over her shoes and her lower legs. Then, I feel a bite and I have the same thing. We stepped into a fire ant mound. By the time we got our shoes and socks off and managed to knock them off of our legs, we both ended up with numerous bites. They aren't like mosquito bites. They burn and end up looking kind of like a chicken pox. Yuck! I love the beautiful variety of birds down here, but I'm not crazy about the bug population!

:scratchin Just wait for "dry season" when your dog gets infested with fleas and brings them inside!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: You're gonna hate Florida before this is all over!!!

I wonder if all of the rain is making it worse? The bugs seem to worse up here too(PA). I got so bitten up on our bike ride, and I was wearing bug spray.

We also saw a snake. It was a fast and skinny brown one, as opposed to the usual fat, black and lazy ones. Not too fun, ugh!:D

Welcome to the South. Here in Texas on the "Coastal Plain" which by the way is code for Swamp we have every pesky critter known to man in ample supply. Snakes, bugs, spiders, flys, scorpions, ants (three kinds) and unfortunately never enough cold weather to wipe those suckers out of exsistence. The up side is no snow, not a lot of cold and oh yea the really hot humid summers.

I can't get use to the palmetto bugs either.

I moved from Chicago where the roaches were half the size of this suckers.

Get this I think they like to come inside our house and sleep. My DH thinks I'm nuts. But, in the morning when I wake up we have at least one or two. They will be lieing on their backs. (little prickly legs in the up position) They look like freakking lobsters.

I think they are dead. But noooooo! I get the broom and dust pan to try to sweep them up . When all of a sudden the bugger runs away. Then I end up steppin on it (one big crunch) YUCK:crazy2:

GOTTA LOVE FLORIDA:teeth:

BIG PROBLEM... I hate bugs! Of ANY kind!!!

EEEEEKKKKK! a palmetto bug down your back!!!!!!!!!

Those things are my worst nightmare! ....and the fire ants...I feel for you ...a friend of mine had numerous bites and they took quite a bit of time to heal....

Take care!

what about the no seeums I still have the scars from last summer 2003

Do you have a company to do pest control. Outside pest control is as important as inside pest control in FL. I know so many people who don't contract with a pest control company and end up regretting it. Oh, and you definately want someone to come and take care of the fireants nests...they are nasty and as you found out, their bites hurt.

oh by the way, try not to scratch at the bites...it can leave little scars.
