What IS it with Disney's Website? Why Can't they Make it Work?

I need to vent ...... I just do not understand why Disney seems to be incapable of having a smooth running website. Forget the content and quality of information, that's a whole other issue, I'm just talking about getting pages to load!

No matter where I go, shopping, travel, movie info, anywhere on their site it is soooooooooooooooooooooooo slow to load pages and has been for weeks. I don't think it's me, I don't have problems with any other websites. But it takes FOREVER to check park hours. I click on the travel/parks link and wait forever while that pages loads, then I click on "Plan", wait forever, then click park hours, wait forever, enter my dates, wait forever, ect...I thought maybe it was just the travel pages, but nope, I was looking at Disney shopping this morning and it's the same thing. So fustrating and annoying. :headache:

I wonder if they had seperate sites if things would run better? Like Disney Shopping having it's total own site, Disney travel, it's own site, ect...instead of every aspect of Disney all being on Disney.com?

It just boggles the mind that Disney can't get their website right and can't seem to make a decent video game. It's unbelievable. :sad2:

Yes, I agree. Disney's trip planning pages looked great - when I could get them to load. I was planning our trip in February and wanted to keep all the pertinent details in one spot that I could access from home or work. But half the time the pages wouldn't load or I didn't have time to wait for them. Very frustrating:sad2:

Seems to be working pretty well now. I have a decent cable modem connection.

There have been times in the past, however, where it grinds to a snails pace even with a good connection. As for the vacation site itself, I suspect it's purposely designed to prevent quick comparisons and easy access to information.

I feel the exact same way! It is sooooo frustrating!! DisneyShopping is even worse than Disney's main site - I'm always getting logged out in the middle or run into links that don't work. Maybe they started D23 to fund website improvements - ha!!

Disney has no excuse for how poorly their websites work. I can't imagine the disaster that will occur when and if they try to go to an online ADR system.

No kidding.... I am trying to book a hotel room and it just won't work. The status bar in my browser just says "waiting for ..." the Disney site, and it's been waiting for quite a while! I'm on a superfast internet connection... and I've tried multiple browsers...

I can't even begin to count how many times I've had issues like this... aaarrrggh. Makes me want to give up and book an off-property hotel!

:sunny:

Agreed. I know the site tends to be "graphically intensive" which increases the load times but it sometimes takes ages to bring things up. I like the stuff their offer such as the customized park maps but I wish other stuff would take precedence like ability to make ADRs.

It's like Pete said in the podcast...

"If you'd spend less time getting Tinkerbell to fly around my screen and more time getting your site to run smoothly..." :sad2:

It's just SO frustrating. I've got a great computer and high speed everything... But, it doesn't matter. It freezes, it takes forever to load what should be a very uncluttered page.

I can't even get Disney Shopping to work correctly.

I've given up. (For now) ;)

It's the same reason they don't have wireless highspeed internet access in their resort rooms too (at least it was still that way last July).:upsidedow

for the record, their website for CMs to get information is just as slow, if not worse. They definitely fail in the website department

It's probably because anyone with any experience has been let go, and they hired a teenager to handle it.

^ I think the average teenager could do a better job with it...

Disney does so many things right but their website is not one of them.

Last week I typed the word 'Dining' into the Offical WDW Website (UK version) search engine. It did not bring up any results.

So WDW doesn't have any dining options then? :confused3

If it is possible, I think the UK website is even worse! Unless you are into Disney Channel, or Hannah Montana, don't even bother!

Nothing in that search function has EVER worked for me!

Truly classic! :rotfl:

I just can't figure out why there haven't been enough complaints to traffic statistics to make upper management rethink their web strategy. And they monitor boards like this enough to "know" about the problem, but obviously don't care.

I'd suggest starting a email and letter campaign to express our disappointment and desire for better. But alas, I have given up on Disney.com. WDWinfo.com has everything I need and I have no need to go back to Disney.com.

please - let there be a 'higher up' cast member reading this - THE WEBSITE IS TERRIBLE! It doesn't work! It doesn't load and is sooooooooo slow. How can this be? Your connection, via the web, to the entire world does not reflect the qualtiy we see on property, that's why (one of the many reasons) so many of us spend more time on unofficial websites! Listen to your fans, please!:sad1:
