What is it About WDW????

Hi everyone!

Tomorrow I will fly to Orlando and visit Walt Disney World for the sixth (fifth solo) time in my life. I never went as a kid, my first trip being with my high school senior class. I first went solo in 2000, and didn't return until 2003 due to financial difficulties caused by overspending on the wrong women.

I return to Disney every year because:

*I can be a wittle kid again.
*It has been my experience that the Disney CMs are among the friendliest employees of any theme park.
*Disney's attention to detail is second to none.
*Because I don't drive and therefore can't rent a car, when I vacation I need to consider how I can get around cheaply, safely, and easily without one. Disney Transit allows me to do that with hakuna matata.
*Friends from the DIS and other boards with whom I can share the magic, especially at Mousefest.

In short, Disney rocks!

My second trip to Disney will be in August. When family members find out that we are going back, all I hear is "Why? Go someplace new" or things like, "Isn't Disney going to be hot, and crowded? Didn't you just go there?" and on and on....

I begged my husband to go back. He acts like he doesn't really want to go, but I overheard him telling his mom how affordable they make it. That is my main reason, I think it is affordable. We usually go to Wildwood, NJ or Myrtle Beach, SC, (sorry, but I absolutely loathe OC, MD). It is the same thing over and over. Beach, pool, nap, dinner. We end up staying in and watching tv most of the time. There is so much to do at Disney that it can be a new experience every time. I already want to go next year, 2007, because my son is crazy about Nemo and there will be the new Nemo musical. Some of the offsite hotels are called resorts because of everyhting that is offered. Well, that is why Disney is also a resort. And, each time you stay at a different resort you get a new experience.

One more point: every year your children get older, so that makes for even more new experiences. I'm actually appy that my son will get to see the Doodlebops in August and my daughter will be going to BIbbidi Bobbidi Bootique!

WDW is just so enjoyable no matter what the age. I've been many times with DH & kids, on girls-only trips, even once by myself. (business trip to Orlando-how could I not stop in) and every time it's been magical. I always feel I get my moneys worth when I go, especially since going to the Jersey or Maryland shore is beginning to be just as expensive (try renting ocean front property for a week in OC).

While my family and I do travel to other places, every other year or so we've got to get back and visit the mouse.

It's funny.. My first trip to Disney came at the age of 25. My father HATED Florida with a passion. He was there once in the 50's and decided it was a 'giant tourist trap' and WDW was a 'giant tourist trap with a mouse.' (his words)

I had a cash windfall that came out of nowhere and was dating someone very significant to me.. so one day I just came home and I had plan tickets and everything all set. The trip was in 14 days.. no arguing start packing.

That was in 1995. I remember seeing my first Disney parade "Aladdin's Royal Caravan" - still have that on video tape someplace.. Amazing. It was simply amazing. I cried.. I was so moved to 'joy' or a 'happy place' or something.. very hard to describe.

The next year I was living in NYC and flying down on 'internet last minute specials' from Continental. Most times I went, I flew down for 3-5 days for 110$ return! I lived in NYC and had an annual pass and got my money's worth and a lot more of out of that pass. Crazy.

More money than brains at the time as my father said. But I had a blast.

Then I moved to California and went thru the same ritual with Disneyland. I knew that place like the back of my hand.

I haven't been to a Disney park since I went to WDW in 2000. And I'm going again in 18 days.

That is if I don't explode in anticipation.

My Dh, my kids and I are actually all enjoying the same activity at the same time!!!!!!!! I mean, I love being with my kiddos in the real world too, but this is different. I am not just having fun watching them play at McD's play land, I am actually playing with them and loving it! It makes me slow down and just enjoy my family. They need to see Mom and Dad giggle and this is the place that makes it easy for us!

Like most people I'd have to say the feeling of being a kid again, seeing the characters and riding the rides. It brings back so many fond memories. Also their attention to detail is phenomenal.

But what really does it for me is the simple fact that the place is designed to make you happy. I can't help but smile whenever I am there. And seeing everyone having such a good time (especially, my own family) always makes me smile even more.

No matter what happens in my life or no matter how expensive WDW gets, I will always go back for more.

Aw, thanks Ryan! I had to post it b/c I constantly think about it. And when put on the spot from my friends all I could ever come up with is "I don't know, because I do"!

But I totally agree with everyones answers. Especially the feeling of being a kid again and feeling safe. Also, someone pointed out The attention to detail and Atmosphere- 2 things that ranked very high on my list.
And I agree with you also when you said you will always go back for more NO MATTER WHAT!
After going thru my list I realized, for me, what it comes down to is the 6 "A's": 1. Attn to Detail 2. Atmosphere 3. Art 4. Architecture 5. Attractions and 6. Aunthenticity...But all these answers here on this thread so far are soooo true! There are a million reasons!

I love the ambience. I love the atmosphere in each and every park and resort. I love the classic rides and how imagineers can think of so many neat things to make it real. I also love that it takes me away from the "real" world if only for a short while at a time!!! We broke the 200 day barrier! Not long now!

I dont know - I wish I could tell you! Ive thought about this so many times. Its like a stinking drug (a VERY expensive drug at that!)

Ive been Disney Message Boarding for 10 years!!! TEN YEARS!!! And Im still also obsessed with knowing every nook & cranny detail of whats going on...when Im not there.

The place is crack. I love it!

Cuisine is with a "C" not an "A".....but since you started this great thread, I guess we'll let it slide.

What I experienced was total happiness for 14 whole days. No bills, no worries, it was like entering a whole new world. Everyone was so nice, everything was so colorful, clean and inviting...I had never been to a place that remotely ressembles WDW before. It surpassed anything I had imagined it would be like.

I quickly became obsessed with the place. I was hit with Post Disney depression really hard when we returned and I mourned that happy place for a long time after that.

Like others say, the familiarity is wonderful, you are guaranteed a magical vacation, and it's a place where everyone enjoys themselves.

That's magic, that is why I keep wanting to go back every year.

OMG! I'm jealous! 14 days??? I've never been there for that long. It's a life long goal of mine to go there for 2 weeks!

Hey DisGirlWirl, I wanna see your list!! I dont know what it is, I think that's why it's "magical"...there's just no other explanation for it. The smell, the gut feeling, the tingles, something is different about the air there.

I like getting away from it all. Much of my free time is spent hiking in out of the way places. WDW lets you get away from it all in the opposite sense. It is an escape from reality. It is larger than life. Few places are like this (only Vegas comes to mind).

I usually find one person to go with me, often a different person every time. I find it enhances the experience to share it with someone, especially if it is their first time. However, reading the forums has me intrigued with the idea of heading down there solo to see what it's like on my own.

My main reasons for visiting WDW is that it's easy, fun, and has great food.

I live in Baltimore, so the flight is only 2 hours. I LOVE going there because everything is already paid for. After being used to this, it was hard when I went to beautiful Aruba for what it would cost to go to WDW, and then had to shell out money for the excursions and the food. After that, I ended up paying out much more money.

As for the fun, I love seeing little kids being so excited, and then something happens to make me excited. Everyday there I look forward to waking up because I know I'm in for some fun.

Finally the food. Where do I start? It's great knowing that eveyday, I'm going to eat somewhere great! Last year when I came back, it was a bit depressed the first day I was packing my lunch that I'd made . . .

It's about bringing the children in all of us out and having uninhibited fun!!! Disney is magical and always will be. It's a place where you do not have to worry about work or other things, you can just be silly and have fun and not be grown up!!
