I have been reading about this subject for a while now and wanted to know if how many things you can request without sabotaging your request.

We absolutely want nonsmoking
We do not want handicapped because of 3 small children and need a bathtub
We would like to request a good room based on location

My question is though is that asking too much so we get nothing? And in what order should these requests be placed?

I will say that I only make one request for non smoking and it has always been met.

I would be hesitant about adding the room location. What you could wind up with is the location and nothing else.

Which resort? What size unit? It can make a difference to the advice you get.

For example, requesting a tub is only important if you are staying in a studio. All the larger units will have at least the jacuzzi tub.

There are relatively few smoking units - the largest proportion are non-smoking. If you arrive early in the day at a resort using "room ready" assignments, the chances of getting a smoking unit (or an HA unit) are very, very small.

My advice is to keep the number of request to 3 or less, including your smoking/non-smoking preference.

For example, N/S, bathtub, near the pool.

The last request really depends on the resort and your personal preference. If you were staying in a studio at the BWV, I'd suggest "near the elevators", since with 3 young ones, you are probably traveling with a stroller. At OKW, I might suggest near a bus stop, near a pool, or even a particular area (South Point or Turtle Pond).

Best wishes -

We only request non-smoking. After learning that we may end up with a H/C studio, at check-in I request that we not be given one if possible. Then if asked where we would like to be I request a location.

When we checked into VWL two weeks ago, the CM at check-in, checked to see if any units were available, they were not (it was only 8 AM). So he asked if I had a preference as to which floor or where we would like to be since there were a lot of people checking out. He was wonderful.

I asked that our non-smoking request first be honored, then non H/C because we really needed a tub for DS, and finally I requested something closer to the elevator as last time we had, no joking, the very last room in the long hallway.

We only request non-smoking. We don't have any kids, so a HC room doesn't bother us, as we have no need for a bathtub. I never request location, and we have always gotten pretty well-located rooms with nice views.

I think you need to decide what are "absolutes" and what are "it would be nice" in terms of room requests. From reading your post I would say non-smoking and non-handicapped are absolutes. Location is a "would be nice".

I also think that sometimes the CMs get "annoyed" at a million requests. Yes, we all know that everyone is paying a lot of money for their Disney vacation, but we all can't have the IllumiNations view in the 2BR newly-renovated with a pool view and close to the elevator. ;)

I always request non smoking for medical reasons as DD has asthma. Other than that, it depends on the CM I am talking to. The last time I called, the lady was chatty and asked things like "so you want to be in a certain area?".

But as a general rule, I request NS, near the elevator and have always gotten this.

Non-smoking is the request I make every time. I may throw 1 or 2 others in from time to time, but NS is the one I really want.

Non smoking is the most important for us.

We have also requested in the past Non handicapped when we stay in a studio b/c we have small kids

We always say "n/s medical reasons" as my Mom has asthma and we have allergies. When we check in I politely ask the CM to try to put us in a non-HC room as the low beds would be hard on my Mom's back, plus I am a complulsive organizer and I want the storage areas that are absent in a HC room. If it is just us in a studio, I'd probably add "bathtub please" because 4 people in a HC studio is a bummer... No closet, no storage, no tub... But non-smoking is our biggie.

Count us in too! We only request Non-smoking. All of the rooms are pretty much the same and it is fun to try new locations. Of course, we're just happy to be on vacation....

non-smoking request is key. I think the non-HC request is important if you are going studio.
