I am in the midst of planning our first family Disney trip. We are staying four days at Disney, then going on a 6 day cruise. It is so overwhelming planning this trip! I have read on here about free dining. What is this? We are planning on getting the disney dining plan - is there some times where they offer this free? We are going to Disney World January 26-30.

Free dining is generally offered in Late Aug til begin of Oct, and this year they added it for early Dec for those that had a pin code could get the basic dinign plan, and the General public could get the Quick service plan for select dates. However it had to be booked by Sept. They have never offered Dining plan during Jan as this coming year they are offering the 4 nights/3 free but not on the dining. YOu also need to book a pkg with tickets to qualify.
