What is "e-ticket"

I've been reading Disney News reports on this and other websites indicating that there may be a future Mermaid ride in MK that is "e-ticket" worthy. That does not sound like they are talking about FP. Are there new ticketing offerings on the horizon? To me "e-ticket" sounds like something that is in electronic form.

Any thoughts?

This is back from when Disney used tickets for each individual to enter a ride.

There were different levels, based often on popularity...

A Ticket
B Ticket
C Ticket
D Ticket
E Ticket

E Ticket was the highest level, oftentimes a major headliner.

There aren't physical tickets anymore, but the labeling from the system has stayed intact.

From what I understand ... when Disney first opened DL and possibly MK at WDW you paid to get in to the park and were given a ticket book that had lettered tickets in them, A - E. You then used these tickets to ride the rides. A tickets were for the basic attractions and the tickets went all the way through to "E" for the headliners (Space Mountain, etc.)

Even though the tickets were done away with, headliner rides are still referred to as "E - Ticket" attractions.

A few years ago there were even extra hour partys call "E -Ride Nights" that only had the headliners open. This was before the days of the Halloween and Christmas parties, but I think it was a way for Disney to find out how many people would pay a bit extra to be able to ride the big rides with little or no wait.

I agree, it can get a bit confusing with all the "e-tickets" we can now print online!

Hope this helps! Jennie

Examples of E-tickets at WDW today would be:

Expedition Everest
MIssion: Space
Test Track
Soarin'
The triple mtn whammy - Space, Splash & Big Thunder
Rock N Roller Coaster
Tower of Terror

others could qualify - but this is the kind of thing the tickets represented...the best and most thrilling attractions would have the e tickets. Each ticket book came with a set number of A, B, C, D, & E tickets, and when they ran out - the thought was that people would use the remaining tickets that they had already paid for to experience the "lesser" attractions - and consequently spread out the visitors throughout the park. People could always buy more tickets if they wanted to...

An example of an A would be the Horse-Drawn Streetcar and other little things like that.

Back in '82 or '83 (or thereabouts) when Sally Ride, the first female astronaut, came home from outer space, she said that the journey was a "real E-ticket ride." America knew exactly what she meant, and it was the ultimate compliment to Disney!

The funny thing is people use it to describe all kinds of things now, not just Disney related. If someone says something is an "E-ticket" that means it's really cool, the best, whatever.:cool1:

Makes since! I remember reading about that but didn't make the connection. I'm releaved - I thought I was going to have to shell out more cash to get better ticket options.... :)

Another example of something becoming a part of common culture. I remember the old tickets books - still have a couple with an A or B ticket left in them. Although E-ticket may now more become associated with "electronic ticket".
