I guess on the surface it's similar to an outdoor mall area.

There's shops, restaurants, a movie theater, etc.

Disney Springs is formerly Downtown Disney. It has lots of restaurants and shops and requires no park tickets

It's when they keep piling on new charges. Disney Springs resort fees on us, Disney Springs preferred parking fees on us, Disney Springs seasonal surcharges on one-day tickets, etc.

It's a lot of fun. Big outdoor shopping, dining, area. It is a beautiful setting and fun to stroll around and look in the shops, grab a bite to eat. There is a movie theater too. There is a huge Disney store and a Ghirradelli ice cream shop!

I was there Nov into Dec 2014. We did go to Downtown Disney just one day of our trip. I guess I didn't realize it was the same as DTD.

I miss Disney SO much too!!

Disney Springs is arguably my favorite repeat area of the resort (well, arguing with myself).
I always like going there to walk around the whole place. I've gone so much, I pretty much know every music act that plays at the various entertainment spots and their showtimes/etc.

Free Daps (the 2 white, freestyle rappers at the food trucks) are great! Seen their set a bunch of times.

I have to assume many of your replies are "canned" in another document considering how many times the same questions get asked. I have never figured out why people don't try google first. you get the answer much quicker.
