What is considered infant vs toddler in the childcare?

My son will be 13 months when we cruise. He is already walking, so is he considered a toddler at the kids club (I read it is easier to get last minute reservations for toddlers vs infants)?

Under the age of 3 is all "lumped" together (nursery is "under 3"). I don't know that having a toddler makes it "easier". Maybe someone perceived it that way. But, if there is space, there is space for last minute reservations, regardless of age of child.

Under 3 means you will be in the Nursery and have to pay for child care services. Last minute deals (or really any booking) are still subject to the following criteria in no particular order:
1. Space in the life boat at the muster station you will be assigned for the room you book
2. Space in the kids clubs and nursery. (Even though there are kids who may not use the clubs, Disney takes this into consideration for the head count.)

As to if there is any difference in ease of booking last minute, if the kid is under 3 vs 3 years and up, I would suspect so, because there would be more capacity at the kids clubs than the nursery. That point made, I cannot think of a time when I have read that it is easier one way or another.

I believe OP was asking about making a last minute reservation IN the nursery (while on a cruise). Not a last minute reservation (actual booking of a cruise).

But, in re-reading, I may be wrong.

Yes. I mean a last minute childcare reservation. Like I'd my baby is having a rough time at dinner or during the show.

According to Passporter.com the ratio is 1:4 for infants 12 weeks to 1 year and 1:6 for Toddlers 1yr to 3yrs. and that they have a max of 30 slots, it doesn't say exactly how they break down the slots.

Looks like you were right based on the OP's response below!

I would agree with your original statement, a mobile and a relatively sturdy toddler is much easier to get into child care last minute than a baby is. But still subject to space availability. If worried about cranky tots at dinner. You can always start your meal with them, then have time booked about 30 minutes into your meal - excuse yourself and then go drop them off. This way you still get family time and still get a leisurely dinner after you drop them off. And don't worry, the dining room staff will keep your food warm!

I'm going to say age won't matter much for last-minute dinner-hour nursery care (and shows are during the opposite dinner seating). The nursery often books up during dinner; I wouldn't expect to walk-up during dinner/show and have availability, though it may be possible. I'd suggest doing as the PP suggests -- pre-schedule time during part of the dinner so you get some family time at the table as well as some quiet adult time. If you find the little one does well during dinner and you don't need to take him/her to the nursery, you can cancel the nights you pre-booked.

Enjoy your cruise!

I will be taking my twin 3 year olds on a cruise in Feb on the Dream. I am going to book nursery time for when we eat at Palo for both the boys and my 1 year old daughter. Will the boys be allowed to still use the clubs the rest of the time on the cruise? I just want to make sure we can take advantage of both options since they still meet the age max in the nursery. One of my boys has autism so he may be happier in the nursery, while his brother may be happier in the clubs with his cousins, but who knows. That's why I will schedule nursery time for our dinner at Palo to know for sure I won't be called down to pick them up.

I don't believe 3 year olds can be booked in the nursery. At 3 they go to Oceaneer's Club.

My son will be 3 and not potty trained as he has special needs and he will be going in the nursery. I have already booked his slots. I'm not sure if 3 year olds that are potty trained have to go to the club instead but I always thought it was age 3 and under for the nursery.

Yes, I always thought that 3 year olds could use the nursery or Oceaneer's, based on potty-training. But I thought I had read (from one of the various YA CMs that have posted here) some time ago, that the age for kids in Oceaneer's is 3 (as in 3 year olds can no longer utilize the nursery), regardless of potty training ability.

I have asked for a clarification on the "Ask Me Anything" thread currently running here on the boards. But, with you being able to book your 3 year old in the nursery, I'm going to say it's still the same.

This is an actual Youth actives CM answering, nothing better than getting it direct!!!

Unless they have recently changed it, the nursery is three and under, according to the DCL website. I believe I have read on here too that parents of three-year olds can choose between the two.

This is my understanding that's why I said as the actual Youth activities CM who is posting here, she will know the correct answer.

Just to confirm the CM Youth activities counsellor posting on the Ask me anything thread, has confirmed three year olds can go to the nursery. This was updated last night on the other thread but not here. It's great to get the correct answer direct from an actual worker there.
