What is better for large groups. Doing Magical Gatherings or doing it on your own. If the only perk I want from Magical Gatherings is rooms next to each other am I better off doing it on my own and requesting connecting rooms?

You will have a higher probability of getting rooms next to each other if you do a Magical Gathering.

I did Magic Gatherings back in March. The only reason I would ever do it again is if I wanted to book some of the special cruises or dinners available only as a MG group. Otherwise I will book it on my own. It was very time consuming having to wait for a CM from MG. You have to deal with them direct. Very disorganized department from my experience.

This is my first trip to Disney. We're going Sept. 25th. We are a group of 8 adults going with our grandchildren so we decided to try the Magical Gatherings. It has been a bit of a nightmare. There are four "experiences" - as they call them - that are unique only to Magical Gathering groups. There is the Wishes Fireworks cruise which includes special seating for the group together and photos afterwards with Peter Pan, the Safari at Animal Kingdom which includes a ride thu the savanagh and dinner, another dinner at Epcot with fireworks and a Good Morning Gathering breakfast at Magic Kingdom. All of these are supposed to be coordinated for your whole group so you are sitting together, have special seating for the events, etc. All of these are better explained on the Disney website under Magical Gatherings. (May be under Grand Gatherings). We are staying at the Wilderness Resort cabins and were told they will try to group us all together. It has been a bit of a nightmare scheduling everything - they don't seem to have their act together and keep getting all the arrangements mixed up. Every time you call, you speak to a different person -- sometimes they can locate all of our arrangements right away and other times, they seem to have everything mixed up. We then get all kinds of confirmations in the mail that are incorrect. The only thing that has been correct so far is the amounts they have charged to my credit card. I've had to make many phone calls and have learned to ask to speak to a supervisor or coordinator right away. The only advantage to all of this is that hopefully our whole group will be sitting together for everything. We're keeping our fingers crossed. I believe you can still go to any one of the four experiences above but you don't get the preferential treatment. We were unable to book the Wishes cruise but did manage to get pontoon boats for all of our group. Good luck!

We had 3 rooms in March under MG and are rooms were not together. 2 connected and the other was in the same building, but at the other end. Since dealing with the MG staff is a nighmare at times, I would only use it if I were booking one of the special features they offer. We did the wishes cruise and it was wonderful. It made all my headaches before hand worth it.

The Grand Gatherings experiences are exclusive to GG, you cannot purchase them outside of that programme.

A Grand Gathering requires 8 people to qualify (but kids under 3 don't count in the tally)

GG try to keep everyone in your Gathering close together, but is not guaranteed. I would say that you have a better chance though by registering as they do seem to be in general successful with the bigger groups.

Yes, you can still have a Grand Gathering through Dreams, your agent will be your 'co-ordinator' with the GG dept.

Hope that helps :)
